Used Sid for pick up at SJO to take me to La Amistad this past week. He's a nice guy, seems to be reliable. That said, I don't see the point in having to jump through the hoops making phone calls & sending emails to confirm in order to save $5 from the airport taxis.

Airport taxis are what $25? How did you get to $20 on a supposedly free service but accepts tips. Not criticizing you if you tipped $20 but just asking.

No question that it's nice to have someone waiting and with a nice vehicle that Lucky Dog is offering, Gringo, knows the gulch and will do it for free with just a tip. I don't know what he expects is a fair tip. I doubt he's going to get $25 like EL Orn generously gave him very often from a solo passenger. If you're coming down in a group Lucky Dog's van would be perfect as would puravidatransport.com, also a board member.

If they are are busy, another option is walk across the street into the garage, take the elevator up to departure level and catch a pirate dropping somebody off. $15. May or may not be a nice car or speak little or any english, but I haven't had a problem. They all know Parque Morazon or Hotel DelRay, but may or may not know SL, SI, LA, DI, Castillo,or HLH. Just in case, have your hotel's tel # handy. If you don't have a cell, he will. Let him talk to reception to get directions.

For the new guys, if you are staying in the gulch and just to get him going tell him hotel circa Parque Morazon or Hotel DelRey, and then call the hotel and let the receptionist give him directions.

I thought this wasn't a business? Didn't you say that this was just to get out of the house, that your girlfriend was driving you nuts etc?... now you have mulitple drivers/vehicles, charge to Jaco etc...I'm confused? Business or just to get out of the house?

Concur about the asses getting you to go to SJO for nothing if true, if it was intentional, thats a dick move! But maybe they were there and you missed them (as one poster said).

Have to admit that it is confusing. This is a posting on a Yahoo group:

Quote:
To better serve my fellow CRL members, Just4tips has now partnered up with
Sidney Smith of One Lucky Dogg Tours Travel & Transport. We still will be
picking you up and transferring you to and from the airports, with professional,
courteous and personal service but now we have added more. 2 more drivers an
extra SUV and 2 new passenger vans for larger tour groups. Many of you have
asked for tours and we have delivered. Site seeing tours, canopy, beach trips,
volcano's, white water rafting, helicopter tours and others. For the expats and
baby boomers considering relocating to Pura Vida land, we have set up real
estate tours. Go on one of our tours or hire us for the day and we will go where
ever you want. Low daily rates. Special travel rates on Flights/Hotel packages,
just ask us. Thanks again for those of you who have used us in the past. We are
looking forward to making new friends in the future.

Frank, One Lucky Dogg Tours Travel & Transport

That would seem to indicate that "Just4tips" is no more and the commercial business "One Lucky Dogg Travel" has taken over and now has a fixed charge for airport runs.

What say you Frank and Sid? Some clarification would be good.

what is so confusing about that I.D.? I am on multiple boards. On this one I offer my fellow buds no fares to and from Sjo. The other board I charge a set fare on pickups only. You can see from some of the post here, I go the extra mile to ensure you have a pleasent transport. I provide refreshments when thy arrive. A free cell phone to use while they are here. They can even stop for supplies on their way to the hotel. All this service and I am proud to say, I have never asked a CRT member for a dime because most are super nice and generous people. I plan to keep it that way. As stated in another post, I will give you a price on transport and tours to other locations in Costa Rica. Thanks again for your understanding and support.

I guess what confused me is about 10 days ago you posted this about members of the other board:

I am a member of another forum here in Costa Rica, mostly pension-ado's and have never had any problems. They are on a tight budget so the tips are not as good but it's rewarding to help some of the people of wisdom.

So when you advised them that you were no longer in the just for tips mode and as BonePony correctly observed Frank stated when he started his for tips only model his purpose was to get out the house occasionally it was unclear (at least me me and BP) exactly what you were offering.

Glad to get it cleared up or at least I think I do. CRT members are tips only and tight budget pensionados (your description not mine) are charged a fixed rate. So it would be fair to say that Just4Tips model has in many cases morphed into a fixed rate model. Nothing wrong with that just glad to get it clear.

I.d. When I posted I never have had a problem with the other forum, If you read it in it's entirety, I'm referring to no shows no calls. Again, my reputation speaks for itself. Thanks for keeping the thread going.

Anybody else get the feeling that some of these threads in this section are very masterfully orchestrated?
