I think 1000c should be good with maybe 3000c on the last day if you think they did a good job.

Sometimes I leave the maid 600 or so sometimes 2k all depends on what I have on me. But agree good place to dump off all the coins. 1k each day is very fair considering they are cleaning up your used condoms/toilet paper/changing sheets that she's knows dirty things have been done on.

Went with 2 500c coins. Got extra towels when I got back to room, so I think I did OK... :)

All good suggetions; keep in mind many give zero.

Try this:

When you get in - or the next day - tip the maid 1000 or 2000c's and ask for additional towels - ask her if she is going to be working during - or the majority of your stay -

Also I try to give it to her personally and definitely daily, do not wait till the end. Sometimes supervisors skim. Plus I think face recognition helps.

Good point, because for example at Sleep Inn, I rarely have the same woman the entire time. So I walk the hall when they are cleaning and ask ¿tiene habitación 312 hoy?--do you have room 312 today? You never know who's going to get it if you just leave it in the envelope; and like it was mentioned, face recognition helps if you need towels, or more coffee bags, whatever, later.

They appreciate whatever you give them, but as I have noted in the past, Americans are generous for the most part. There's a whole continent of other nationalities that don't tip, period.

x2. Always do this myself. Canada has $1 & $2 coins & I still never have half as many of them as I do 100 colone coins.

Well said. I was told by a friend in the hotel business that you should always give any tip directly to the maid, because supervisors will make a point of visiting the rooms on your last day to scoop up the tips. What a dog eat dog world we live in. :(

Very good point. I was at The Days Inn and the maid told me to put the tips under the pillow on the unmade bed especially on my last day as the supervisors went round on the day you left and pocketed the maids tips ! So if it was left under the pillow the chances of the maid getting it was high.
I could not believe this is happening now. Sad.

Good call Scuba1, I always do this on the first day. find the maid or head of housekeeping. Tip her 5K colones then tell her I want 6 towels a day, ice and cups daily and sheets changed daily then leave coins each day. Works like a champ! I've even had her see me leaving my room with a chica (after a session) and came back to see that she re cleaned my room. Told her that was not needed and yet she still does it.

Hotel was HLH.

Also I give her a couple K colones and she will do my laundry. I'll come back to the room in the late afternoon and all my clothes are either hanging up or folded and put away nicely. She even irons my pants.

ya get what ya give

Gabby and Karla are really good with the housekeeping at HLH. Those short-term rooms can keep them busy. Yet they are always attentive to the hotel guests.

Yes, there are THREE Karlas at HLH----Karla the maid, Karla the bartender, and, the best of all, Karla the chica.

No problem with special requests for any of them.

I'll often bring Dollar Store "girly" gifts for the housekeepers. They deserve a treat, too.

Great idea RAC, I think I'll go buy a gang of that dollar store female stuff and play Santa Claus.
