Super nice place, used to rent one of the suites for clients. I don't know if they are like the rest and like to be greedy and charge for a chica, but couldn't see that place not letting them in.

I think the Backyard Hotel is the nicest on Playa Hermosa although Surf Inn is also pretty good. Both have A/C, cable TV, wireless internet and the other normal conveniences. The Backyard Bar is on the property and gets pretty lively in the evenings especially on Wednesday (I think) for Ladies Night. Both the Backyard and the Surf Inn are owned by ex-pats and both do a good job with customer service and both hotels have suites/condos available which are nicer than the regular rooms. I doubt either are chica friendly just from the vibe I get from the owners but that is a question I've never asked. I have stayed at the Backyard Hotel's private house they have for rent and it is VERY nice but he does NOT allow chicas to return there similar to most private houses in the area. Here are the website addresses for both:

Thanks transport, I hope you are wrong on the girls thing. I made it clear I would have a lady staying with me. I also noticed in thier web page the say 15.00 guest fee. Just hope they stand by that or there will be a whole lot of sneaking going on. Jajaja

Shouldn't be a guest fee if it's double occupancy and you check in with her.

Website says $96 for single or double occupancy so your lady checking in with you is no problem. But it says "$15 for extra person" not "guest fee". In hotel speak "extra person" does not mean what you are thinking. And as you know, in CR the law now is hotels are required to know the identities of any of the people staying there so they make copies of passports or cedulas.

PV says vibes he got that they were probably not chica friendly. And if they won't let them into the rent house, sounds like that they are not. I ate there once. Logistically difficult to be sneaking somebody and if I remember you have to walk past reception to get to the rooms.

Can you get the third person to check in with you, that would clear that up. Or are you planning on just scouting Jaco and bringing a 3rd person back at night? Good luck, maybe you can pull it off.

If those two gringos have been in business on that beach, so close to Jaco, for more then 6 months, they're hip to all the games and then so is the front desk. And most likely, they probably have outside security at night. I'd call the desk and without ID'ing yourself, tell them you are planning on staying there and can you bring back a guest at night. If not and it's important, not too late to cancel and do the Hotel Cocal thing in Jaco.

If you do stay there, that's a roaring surf so be very careful when it picks up.

+1...Great post DGD

However, I was wrong. Just called the Backyard Hotel for you and they said a chica from Jaco is no problem but of course, you do have to register her at the front desk before bringing her to your room. I was VERY clear on what I was asking so you shouldn't have a problem. Also said there is NO guest fee. The $15 is just for extra people staying in the room (for the duration, not short time).

Thanks DGD, I Did Cocal last trip, and it was a blast . Just wanted a little quiet this trip while still being arms length from the fun. About a 8 dollar cab ride to Jaco if my research is correct.
I was told the beach is nicer and I like ocean kayaking.

You're welcome, sounds like you are all set. Very nice hotel, bar, retaurant, new bar upstairs, drink specials, fun place.

The beach is alot nicer, like x100. I already mentioned the surf. Let me mention the sand--it's the dark brown CR variety and it gets so hot you can probably fry an egg.

If a taxi is $8 one way 4 days, I'd consider renting a car. You're going to be going back and forth twice a night transporting your guest. That's $32. You probably are going to back and forth more than that throughout the day or night playing in Jaco.

There's a Budget Rental outlet in Quepos or rent in SJ, it's easy to get to Jaco as you may know with the new Autopista del Sol (Rt 27) to Rt 34, straight to Jaco. Just a thought.

If you do, do it online from the states, you'll get a much better deal. I always use Budget, I find they have the best rates.

No prob...glad to help out. I will give you my standard lecture on Playa Hermosa. Do NOT for any reason go on the beach after dark. I wouldn't leave the hotel property unless it is in a cab to wherever you are going after dark. The beach is much nicer and cleaner but it is a black sand beach so it gets really hot...bring some footwear to use and be careful about just sitting down somewhere in shorts. The surf at Hermosa is world class and is accompanied by savage rip tides. Be very careful about entering the water and really only do so if you are a very good swimmer to begin with which with ocean kayaking, I assume you are. Don't go more than perhaps 1/2 a mile down the beach away from the cluster of civilization. It is very lonely and can be dangerous even in the daytime.

Other than that, think you made a good choice. When my family came for a visit from the States, we rented a house in Playa Hermosa and had a grand time as I hope you do as well!
