More accurately stated would be they do not want to bother with you over such a minor transgression. If they really were interested just the mention of Cuba on this site as well as all others, every email, phone conversation, etc. could tip them off if NSA set their filters to catch the word Cuba. Big brother is watching!

Trivia: Which country approached Canada in the 1980s wanting to join as a new province?
(Turks and Caicos Islands) :)

Even you do not believe that. Ninety nine percent of the U.S.population, at last count that is about 317,000.000, regularly use the word Cuba in their daily lives?

Oh, now I understand. You have taken your your hearing "Cuba" in your day to day activities approximately once every 17 hours and extrapolated that number to come up with the conclusion that 317,000,000 men, women, Ch*ldren, infants in the United States use the word "Cuba" on a daily basis.

Perhaps you should leave your government job and take a position as a writer for one of the many PAC's currently writing political advertisements.

Point being, based on my travel experience and the cbp employees that I run into on a regular basis, mentioning Cuba is a non-issue unless you are giving them more info about actually visiting.-

Glad we can agree on one point. That is why I posted

I spent 6 days in Cuba in April of this year. I flew in through Cancun and had to spend a night there due to flight times. The flight to Cancun was the biggest espense of the trip. Cuba was terrific. I was in the countryside 45 kms west of Havana for 3 days and met a lot of Europeans out for a holiday (including one Scottish lass 8) and met several Cubans due to having some half-decent Spanish and playing a little guitar.
Havana was an experience-they will boot you to another hotel because they chronically overbook the better hotels. But I stayed at a nice little hotel overlooking Havana harbor and Morro Castle. You will be asked constantly if you want to buy a cigar (forgery) or need a taxi. The drinks are cheap and the sites are great. Check out the Tropicana, Ambos Mundos Hotel, and Finca de Vigia (Hemingway's house), along with the private little cafes.
They give you a piece of paper for your passport and do not stamp your regular passport. Take extra currency just in case since we can't use plastic down there.

Dear Spook/Agent/Snitch/Gvt. Operative/TinFoilHat wearing Steven1:

I have great news...Insight Cuba received its license to resume legal people-to-people trips to Cuba. We can all go to Cuba once again and as a thank you for your support, we will cover your flight costs on select tours!

Words cannot express my heartfelt gratitude, appreciation, and thanks for all the support you have provided Insight Cuba over the past year. Since the U.S. Treasury Department allowed travel licenses to expire across the industry, thousands of you signed our Save Legal Travel to Cuba petition, and many of you called or wrote your Congressperson.

Amazingly, since Ellen Creager, who traveled on our Inaugural Trip last August, broke the licensing story in the Detroit Free Press, the issue was featured in over 46 media outlets across the country including the New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, and USA Today.

Legal travel to Cuba is a rare and unique opportunity that has only been possible a few times in the past 50 years. The past few months has demonstrated how fleeting this opportunity can be.

I want to personally invite you take advantage of this special opportunity to visit Cuba while you can. Please visit our new website at http://www.insightcuba.com to see all that we have to offer or call one of our outstanding Travel Specialists at 800-450-CUBA (2822) who love sharing everything they know about Cuba.

Cuba holds a special place in my heart, and once you arrive, you will know why. I hope to see you there soon.

Personal Observation:

It is not difficult to go AWOL when on this tour....oh....they come looking for you.....but it's not hard to keep yourself "unfound" for "hobby purposes"!......

PS: Belexus73: Welcome to the list and good luck! Even if you're a hoser, that ever present "list".....that ever present and organic, alive list.......

I do believe it.

Once you affirmed your believe in your 99% figure you lost the ability to use the hyperbole defense. :P

But it is all good as I pointed out we agree that tracking down U.S. visitors to Cuba is not a priority of the Justice Department.

Correct me if I am wrong, but if you use the Cancun route to Cuba, will you not end up with two entry stamps to Mexico and no explanation on where you were between them? (once when you arrive from the states and then again when you come back from Cuba?) You can't do a transit through Cancun because that will be on record with the airline you started on in the States, no?

Also, traveling from Canada, you have to transit US airspace so Homeland Security will have your name and passport number on a list (it's the law for all aircraft transiting US airspace... even if they are only flying over it and not landing in the US)

Unless you are James Bond, there will always be a record of you going to Cuba. But like others have said, they just don't care as much these days. The only situation I can see where it might bite you in the ass is if your job requires you to be vetted and they do a background check. Like for government work. Or a political campaign :D

From what i read and heard: the second entry stamp can be bought meaning no stamp in the passport while coming back to mexico from cuba. The cost is around $20 to the mexican immigration guy for not stamping as a bribe
