They love vibrators but will want to keep them.

Somebody wonders why a guy gives a chica a little gift.

I have noticed that American guys tend to be generous.

You could ask the same question as to why Americans tip CR bartenders and wait staff (male or female) when in most places it's already included in the check.

More often than not I see guys from the states throw another buck or more on the bar or table when they leave, even if they only had one drink. They tip like they do at home regardless of the tip already being charged. You won't see Euro's do that, included or not--they don't tip--period.

I used to bring small gifts for chicas. The stff was pretty good, not some crap from the dollar store. But after realizing that 95% of them don't appreciate it anyway, I stopped wasting my money.

Now, I will only bring something for one of 2 favoritas/amigas I always hook up with.

That's a good approach, and it makes sense. Those who go above and beyond, and with whom there is some chemistry, deserve some appreciation.

Makes you look like a fool, and I don't mean you personally.

Look at it this way... She walks into a hotel room with a gringo 1k miles away. He has gifts just for "her and her K*ds"??
How would you look at that situation? You are 100% correct on the 95% BTW.

Been said many times about the 6th grade education of many chicas, but far too many times guys don't get the value of street smarts and the "get it" education.

Quite frankly, do something nice for the bambino: Serious business: Coloring books and crayons go a LONGGGGGGGGG way.....no foolin': They're next to impossible to secure down that a 'way and they're quite cost effective.

I know why guys do it and all, but older single guys bringing crayons and coloring books have always been kind of creepy to me. It's something that can be misconstrued and can have a negative connotation.

Would it be ok if I was not single and brought crayons and coloring books? If I was younger and single or would it be better if I was younger and married. I am trying to figure out what would be misconscrewed about doing this at my advanced age. Please tell me before I load up on K*ds toys for my next visit. My tongue is firmly implanted in my cheek as I read these posts. It's better than the comics section in the local daily newspaper.

Interesting to observe that so many guys are chasing after chicks with rugrats. I always avoided that as much as possible. On the occasion I was with one, they knew I pretty much wasn't interested in the family situation. Not that there is anything wrong with that, just not my thing.

When you go to CR often, inevitably you make friends, for one reason or the other. Very few don't have K*ds. I go to the same beach town all the time for years now. Sometimes I need a favor (no water at my condo once--needed a shower; advice on what mechanic to go to who wouldn't rape me; help moving stuff; how should I do this; can I send something via bus from SJ for you to pick up for me and hold until I return; can you help me with x,y,z and on and on).

Nothing creepy about bringing regalos for your friends or their K*ds. That's called friendship. I'll see Ticos on the beach I haven't seen in 5 years but we remember each other.

Maybe bringing gifts are a little weird if you don't know them and this is your "entree".

In either event, they appreciate everything. I go down with three bags, (thank you TACA), mostly stuff for my novia and her family, but also stuff I know my friends or their ninos want. I go back with three bags filled with fresh roasted coffee I get at Cafe Trebol at the Central Market.

I'm with you, Third. I just know some "stuff". When one gets too close and "family" starts getting into the picture, and that exact same moment strife, headache, drama, domestic violence arrests, and God knows what else is soon to follow. No thank you. :P :D
