More like a Valverde bad pitch. :P

The real bad break was Derek Jeter fracturing his ankle.

If there was ever " a must win" its today......they win today for jeter but the will still need to beat the tigers ace twice to win the series......hard road but with a win today vs sanchez its the start.....since my rays are out, I pull for the yanks, no way will they run the table.......on the yanks

Whomever you support, this is one of the better post-seasons in a long time and the excitement continues. "Love the sinner, hate the sin." A saying by Ghandi.

I think he meant wins the World Series, not sweep the Yankees.

But how do you figure they need to beat Verlander twice ? They don't (yet) even need to beat him once.

Don't know at this level exactly how much losing your "Captain" means but Jeter was one of the few Yankee regulars hitting, along with Teixeira and Ibanez (semi-regular).

Before last night Ichiro wasn't hitting either and Granderson, A-Rod, Swisher and especially Cano have been beyond pathetic. Frankly, if the O's weren't even worse than the Yankees the Yanks wouldn't even BE in this series,,,,,,,,,

As a lifelong Tigers fan I have suffered though Jim Leland's tenure. Leland is loyal to his players to a fault. Valverde has been bad ALL YEAR! Leland said in his post game press conference following game one "Valverde is still our closer".

Verlander twice means game 3 and a possible game 7 on short rest.

yes i meant winning the ws.
so far its going the way i hoped for. hate the giants and the tigers could use a ws victory to pump up detroit.

Watching the game last night, the yanks troubles for this series is over as the sweep looks 100% now, my thoughts are now for next year, they are really old, jeter? , Arod, , who will they buy as they cant go into next year with this line up, take away the 9th inn. Of the 3 games and they have been shut out for the series( not a shot at jeter, I hope he can come back for 1 or 2 more years )

jeter is one of my favorite gamers in the game. but they have to be realistic and some point. as a dodger fan i hate to say it but maybe they can convince colleti and mark walters to absorb some nasty contracts like boston did and rebuild. either way i doubt yankee fan goes through too many lean years.
just not baseball wout a good yankee team to hate. :x

Jeter ? Who knows where the end of the line is ? First half of '11 everybody (including myself) thought he was done and he ended the year on fire and ended at .297.

This year Jeter was even better and hit a few points ABOVE his lifetime average. Range at SS has become more limited but he IS steady and can still hit. And despite what Skip (Balls-less) Bayless insinuated (he apparently never actually SAID it), that Jeter was "using", there is ZERO evidence/proof.

A-Rod ain't going anywhere. Anudder 5 years. Never saw/heard anybody even suggest that George, who had him signed 5 years ago, before he died, wanted the All-time HR leader to be a Yankee. I thought that right from the get-go as I never thought A-Rod was worth the original 2004 $$$. And he's had ONE good postseason out of EIGHT; the year they won, 2009.

And just this morning I (finally) heard that A-Rod has a $30M bonus in his contract for beating Bar-roid's "record". 115 homers to tie. 23 per year. Fairly easily obtainable if A-Rod retains any semblance of his former skills and stays fairly healthy. $115 for the next 5 years. Pretty much untradeable. But the Yankees knew this when tehy signed him 5 years ago.

The ONLY thing a Yankee fan can hope for is that A-Rod's hand never totally healed from Hernandez putting him on the DL for about 2 months and that's been affecting him since he came back in September and he just hasn't said anything. Then perhaps next year he'll back to some semblance of an everyday player. No hope he returns to "Superstar" form of course.

I think Swisher's a free agent. After this postseason's stinkaroo he's gone. They'll get somebody else. Granderson ? Probably stays. Cano ? He ain't goin' nowhere (until he's a free agent anyway). Yankees have an option on both of them for next year. After 2013 they're both free agents. Yankees, despite Cano's postseason performance this year will probably try to sign Cano before next year. Granderson ? Who knows ? Maybe they pick him up for next year and then let him walk - the 40 homers and the defense are very nice but he's not stealing any bases, his on base and BA numbers stink and his strikeouts are reaching Kingman-like proportions.

BTW, anybody notice the balls and strikes the umps called in games 1 and 3 ? I didn't watch all that much of game 3 but he was giving Verlander strikes in the right-handed batter's box (for lefty hitters). Verlander's tough enough but c'mon now,,,,,, Kind of reminds me of how Greg Maddux got into the HOF !!!

If there is ANY validity in the "strike zone" graphic TBS was showing these umpires REALLY blow !!!

To be fair(?) the ump in Game 1 sucked for BOTH teams (I watched pretty much the whole game). Last night (gm 3) I didn't watch that much, mostly only when the Yankees were up so I don't know how he called it against the Tigers)
