Hey everyone, I'm heading to CR soon with a small group of male/female friends. We're staying in SJ only one of the nights at the Grano De Oro. I heard this is chica hostile. What are my options in terms of where I can bring my female guest to play with? I'm assuming I can't even bring a female guest into Grano De Oro. Didn't know about this hotel until after our travel agency booked it. What happens if I do try to bring a female guest into Grano De Oro? Will security refuse to allow her in, or will they just give me the look or nod? Anyone with this experience? Thanks.

If you are checking in as couples or if you are checking in as a group there should be no problems.

I'm confused by your post. Are traveling with a group and just looking for some action for BOTH you and your lady or are you looking for some side action for just yourself?

If just you then why not call the hotel and ask them if they're "chica friendly?" It's just that simple. Otherwise, your other option is someplace like Hotel Little Havana for a round of "play."

Never heard of the hotel you mention. It sounds fancy. Bringing a chica to a place like that probably won't go over too well. The monger community is a close-knit group of business establishments and individuals in San Jose. We prefer to to enact our own travel packages. :D

I'll take a swing at his question -

He is looking to pick someone up; no issue w.the group he is with - you know......a hooker

ID - I get the impression he's looking to Phuck a whore, not play with other members of the group, and the check in issue is relative to his Del Rey dollie - not others in his group - regardless; not gonna happen - at least not in Grano del Oro :)

Jett - :) Grano del Oro (grain of gold - named after coffee) is a great hotel, lot going for it, etc - the reason you never heard of it is its totally chica hostile; so seldom discussed on CTR - so to the OP, you are not gonna be checking in random girls there

All is hardly lost, however - thats what Massage Parlors are for, and since you only have the one night, are your best option - make life easy; cab it over to Hotel Little Havana (its a short ride from your hotel) and have fun, b/c its not happening at the 'ole Grano!

A few hits w/ the wet noodle to you for doing reasearch after the fact, but OTOH, its a great hotel, and frankly, were I you, no matter how well you know this group of friend - unless you are a swingers group   - I'd tend to want to keep my activities a tad more on the down low (lets face it - you are not coming to CR for the main reason to Phuck random girls) no matter how well I knew others in the group - now....did I get it - how close did I come :)

Your question proves my point that San Jose in particular, and Costa Rica in general is not some giant whorehouse; regardless of the publicity, mostly by those who know little to nothing about the country, or worse - judge the country based on a few blocks surrounding the DelRey --realatively few places support the hobby (by now you know one other place who does not  :P  )

Hey everyone,

Thanks for the replies. I'm traveling with a couple male and female friends who I will not be playing with (we're really here to really see Costa Rica e.g. rainforest, volcano, etc.) but we will be staying in SJ for a night and I have my own private room at the Grano De Oro during the stay and was hoping to have a female companion over discreetly as a guest (my friends staying in separate room). I guess I should've checked the hotel name before booking with travel agency but too late to change now.

I was just checking to see if I might be able to invite an escort over in the evening. It sounds like the hotel is totally chica hostile.

What do you guys mean checking in with? What if I'm just having a lady over as a guest for a couple hours but not overnight? Would she not be able to just come up to my room discreetly without being stopped by security? Just wondering because in the U.S., at most hotels we can just come in and out without being noticed by front desk or security.

Also, HLH was mentioned above by some. Are rooms available for hourly/short-term rentals? I've read about MP but also read the quality is not that great, and not a lot of variety to choose from beforehand.

Scuba, you're very close in guessing what I was asking. I guess you don't get a PhD from Del Rey for nothing. =)

jb-

HLH does have short time rooms, but chicas are only there until 8 pm or so...after that you can pick up a Del Rey or Sportsmen's chica, and go to any number of short term hotels, like Asia (around the corner from Del Rey)...they aren't high end by any means, but a place to get your business done. Occasionally Del Rey will still have a room open, but then you are into $70+ for the room plus $11 for every trip upstairs...

buena suerte mi amigo

What do you guys mean checking in with? If you "knew" a lady from Costa Rica, she accompanied you to the front dest - when you check in, not 4 hours later - and regestered her with you when you checked in - as long as she did not dress like a total whore, you could probably pull it off - but what you are talking about is having someone come by later, or you to waltz in with someone - and at the place you choose, not going to happen What if I'm just having a lady over as a guest for a couple hours but not overnight? No - that what we are talking about - how many times do you have to be told no; the place is a really great hotel, good restrauant too - rare in Costa Rica - but its one of the best, most unique properties in the country, and they don't want the place turned into a mongers hotel - Would she not be able to just come up to my room discreetly without being stopped by security? Not their first rodeo - what, you think you are the first guy to stay there and want to sneak a girl in  Just wondering because in the U.S., at most hotels we can just come in and out without being noticed by front desk or security.True - but as you are <maybe> learning, Dorothy, you are not in Kansas any more - by now, what do you think the answer is - hint hint ...opposite of yes

Also, HLH was mentioned above by some. Are rooms available for hourly/short-term rentals? I've read about MP but also read the quality is not that great, and not a lot of variety to choose from beforehand. For a guy who knows almost nothing, how could you possibly form that opinion, especially after I recommended a place to you - trust me, I've forgotten more about Costa Rica than many, and if I give you a recommendation, take it - Hotel Little Havana is a great place, lots of choices, and so long as you don't show up at 10AM or 8:30PM - ita an afternoon to early evening place, you will be fine - great line up, too; lots of choices - trust me - you read/heard wrong BTW....if you don't want to go to a massage parlor, go to the Hotel Del Rey - pick up a dollie, and head over - about a block and a half away - to the hotel Asia - kinda shitty, but about $10 for the hour and great for your purposes - However, the Grano del Oro its not

Scuba, you're very close in guessing what I was asking was a little unclear, but I got the jist. I guess you don't get a PhD from Del Rey for nothing. =) Actually, wrong again - almost for nothing - its all in fun; based on the number of posts someone has; nothing to do with the quality, or the info contained   :)

JB

JB, really read my comments above - and since you sould like a good guy, and since I'm correct in everything I'm telling you - listen up.

Costa Rica at its heart is a conservative country; its people are wonderful, and the place - once you get out of San Jose - is beautiful - but don't judge it based on what you hear, the comments of those who know very little about the place, or worse, judge the place based on knowledge of a few blocks of the "Gringo Gulch" - you are finding out the hard way that all the misconceptions and mis information is just that - the great news is is easily gotten around, just not between the sheets at the Grano del Oro.

Some years back I was in a similar situation, in Santiago, in the DR - traveling with 3 others from work - I decided to take any activities off site - and frankly, so should you - some things you want to keep a little quiet - just my humble opinion. :)

diScuba, how many of your 1400+ posts were apologies?

Uh, none-----like I've posted, you can question my style of posting, but very seldom the info contained - in this thread, for example, the OP got some good advice - and if there was some very slight ball busting, it was just that - very slight. Plus, some guys just don't get my sense of humor  and I'm not gonna worry about them - hint, hint.

Guy does zero research and wants to know how to sneak a girl into perhaps the most chica hostile hotel in San Jose - in fact, I think I gave him great advice; what did I say <again, not the way it was written, but the info itself> that was in any way incorrect; plus I took the time to give him him some great advice on how to solve his problem - if anything, a thank you, not an apology is in order

No, not at all TW - many forums, threads, I stay out of b/c I either can't add anything, or they don't interest me :o   (like Trip Reports, for example)

You are no slouch in the posting department either, TW  :P  :) Maybe you should take your own advice

I can dish it and take it but thought it was a tad unwarranted in this particular thread :)

Guys, thanks for all the very helpful advice. No worry about sounding harsh, Scuba. I get your humor. I'm pretty chill so not easily offended by anyone, and if anything, the fact that you spent a lot of time responding shows you're trying to be helpful so I knew that. Much appreciated.

Unfortunately, I won't be arriving until after 830-9pm, so will be missing the day actions at HLH. I guess my options are limited, and it seems best option available given my arrival schedule is to go to HDR, pick up a girl, and head over to Asia or HLH for short term rental. Is it safe to walk from HDR to nearby places such as Asia for short term rentals? Just remember reading in newbies section night time can be dangerous.

Glad you "get it" - some on the board never do  - I have a ton of trips over 15 years, so I have seen and experienced a lot.

Yes, the walk from the Del Rey to Hotel Asia is measured in feet, so walking it you should be fine. Plus, you will not be "alone", right :?:

Have a good trip, and you are welcome - I do enjoy sharing info with others, especially new guys - with a touch of humor, of course  :P
