My apologies again Bear.

The gal put your order in the system incorrectly. You had a very long wait once things finally got figured out and your food was served. I picked up your tab and personally apologized for our error. Graciella was let go this morning. Can I do anything else for you Bear? I do appreciate your business!

There were quite a few girls at the Lodge later on in the afternoon and on Sunday evening.

Again Sorry,

Bill

Sounds like Bill did everything right to try and please the customer. It happens and I'd stay and eat there any time! Looking forward to my trip down and staying there.

Wow, just wow! This is one of the reasons I'll be staying at the SL in the coming weeks. I have no ax to grind with any other place in the gulch but it's not hard to see why the place remains a favorite.

Gotta watch those Jaco girls Bill. Not really used to working much. Working the night scene for boyfriends, especially of the Los Suenos persuasion, it the chicas specialty there. :D

Why leave out half the story?? Seems like you had a raw deal, but the main man himself took care of it for you. The Girls situation is out of The Sposrtsman hands, being independent contractors and all.

Personally never had any issues while staying at SL, that's why I continue to come back. Might find same CS at other venues, but then again might not. Just my two colones....

Just finished a 5 night stay at the sportmens, ate most everymeal there, my report was the service was the best I have had in the past 3 years, didnt matter who waited on us, service was fast, food was hot and my bill was correct.

My none working girl and her wings ordering drinks they have no ideal what is a call brand or top shelf ( this is when a server can give the gringo the screw job) the staff was great even looking at me to confirm the order each time.

Really thought the staff has improved, many new faces and most called me by name

thats my take
honestly its sort of amazing and embarassing in a way that a member of this site would call out bill on this site after he handled it the way he did
oh wait hes not a member, that might explain it
i have had my order messed up or forgotten in much better places than a gulch sports bar
if the owner personally came out and paid my tab and apologized that would be more than the end of it
granted i might have a bit of a biased view of things from my perspective since i work w the man but this is petty
its the reason review type sites like yelp, tripadvisor, et al should always be taken w a grain of salt
some vindictive prick has an axe to grind for no reason
he paid your freakin tab man and the girl apparently lost her job
wtg bro

on my july trip i went to sl for breakfast(wings and imperial)about 9:00am.After 2 beers i noticed that everyone who came in and ordered after me were getting there food.I asked the bartender who politely told me she forgot to put in the food order.Issue resolved wings came no harm no foul.Sometimes shit happens.I have never had an issue with the staff at sl.I dont stay there but stop in a few times a trip.As for the girls it has always been hit and miss but the staff has always been very good.

TIT This is Thailand,, err ops This is Costa Rica, TCR and guess what YMMV every time, im fact all most hourly in the girls available in any venue. And honestly, I have never stayed it SL, i have had a meal or two, shot some bad pool ( well I shot badly.) I have never met Bill, but by all the thingsi have read he is one of if not the most stand up guy, lodging owner in SJ. I agree the way Bill handled you minor screw up was outstanding ( except maybe =for firing the wait staffer). But it is his biz to run as he sees fit must be working as it is hard as hell to ever geta room there unless you apply months in advance.

Bill is as standup as they get. Always comes over and says hello when he first sees me on a trip. New staff is more on the ball as a whole than the old staff. I go there every day when I'm in town whether I am staying there or not (tough to get a room which speaks volumes about this place). NEVER had an issue there. Bill will bend over backwards for his guests and patrons.

Sad that after Bill bent over backwards and touched the floor Bear STILL came on here and slammed SL.

This ain't the Grand Hyatt in Manhatten but then I'm not paying $300 a night, $50 for a meal and $13 for a beer.

I was there everyday during my visit in July and seemed like the # of girls was about the same as years past. maybe you just hit it on a bad couple of days.

Currently staying at the SL, this my first trip to SJ.

Food? good and very reasonably priced, Yesterday I walked el centro a good bit, got hungry and stopped by several "low" priced restaurants, menu prices were a tiny bit lower than SL's ( but with the CRT discount it more than compensates) I will just eat rest of my meals at SL.

Service? Top notch, have nothing for praises for the whole staff, from front desk, security men, maids and barmaids enough said about that.

Chicas? Both afternoon and evenings so far they have been good selection to my liking. I do not know how it was before, but I personally do not need 100 girls to select from if I have a good group to pick from and that is what I have seen, 20 or every evening so far. I must also state I stopped by HLH a couple of times, and IMHO the the selection of Chicas at SL has been better ( too my liking anyway)

Bill? Unfortunately I have not met him, but if he is responsible for the operation, seems to me he is doing an excellent job.

The only recommendation I have for SL, is to consider doing something about lighting after hours. A couple of nights ago I returned to SL after hours and found the lights were already out and the way to the room much darker I would have expected, maybe a few nightlites along the way, or have a security guard walk with you with a flashlight. I had no issues and found my way just fine, but someone returning, specially after having too much to drink, could trip and get hurt along the way. Other than that minor issue, my stay has been great.

Bill has a great Hotel/Bar that was a much needed addition to our little community. It gave us a place to met people other than the Del Rey (Talk about service issues).

It is a different world running a business in Costa Rica vs the USA with challenges you could not have imagined. I would not do it.

Bill just makes it look easy. Really, he does the impossible.
