I've been contacted by an LA producer/writer who is putting together a new TV show on Americans people who left the US since the start of the big recession in the US in search of greater economic opportunity or simply the pursuit of happiness abroad. He is looking for people/families in Costa Rica to profile and was hoping I could suggest some candidates. I'm not sure how many of you might qualify and be interested in participating in this project but if you are let me know and I'll refer you over to this guy.

Prolijo....good hearing from you again.

There are certainly some good candidates among this group to be considered. One minor problem is that will have to bit their tongue as to their chica ties.

I can just see Vegas Bob interviewed:

"Well, I came to CR for the beauty of the countryside. Money is not a problem with me but it is more economical to live here than in the northeast states. Cien goes a long way here to make one happy. I enjoy tuna fishing at the coast, visiting the hotels to talk with tourists and locals, enjoy the cuisine, great steaks and fresh sea food, especially the pink tuna. I have several cleaning women that I rotate on a regular basis. Mainly to help them have extra income. It comes from the heart and I feel good that I can make them feel better about themselves."

"And BTW, if you need a travel guide here in SJ, I can introduce you to several ladies that know the main attractions."

Yep, I think VB would be a good interview.

But don't leave out DonPapi. He would be interviewing the interviewer.

Prolijo...good to see you on the board again.

Circus...that was a great response...funny but true  I imagine quite a few individuals would indeed respond with something like "I am heavily involved with my favorite charity" (helping support unwed mothers) :)

To be honest, the common issue of how much if anything to let out of the bag about our mongering activities occurred to me too. But I was hoping that at least some of the expats on the board would have plenty of other reasons that they could talk about for having moved to CR. I guess I should have added that if you yourself would not feel comfortable discussing your personal reasons for moving to CR you might at least know of some other expat who you think might be a better candidate who could be interested in participating in this program.

And I guess I also need to add a couple of other points of clarification. From the limited description this guy sent me I BELIEVE he is really only interested in economic refugees from the RECENT recession. So that would probably disqualify expats (like VB) who moved to CR prior to the economic meltdown in 2008, however if any of you longer-term expats are interested I could check back with this guy just to be sure. The other point of clarification concerns the question raised by Blue Devil as to whether this guy might also be interested in expat "refugees" to other countries. And as for the answer to that I'm not really so sure, but will also check back and clarify here if it turns out he'd also be interested in talking to expats in other countries.

Hey Bone:
I'm well aware of the over used term "pink snapper." Pink tuna sounded better and most people will fall for both...except fishermen....and of course you.

His reply:
"Thanks for getting in touch - I'll try to answer your questions in the order asked

1) I'd like to keep it focused on 2008 but if they came to CR looking for a better opportunity, I'd still like to contact them.

2) I'm interested in expats in any country who left the US for better opportunity."
