Perhaps this points out the differences (or some differences) between random wingmen and real friends.

Ain't no "perhaps" about it, Brother Hank Daman. Anybody who adheres to this standard is eccentric maybe but a friend is somebody I'd take a bullet for. And then there's everybody else.
Extreme, yes, but y'all get the pic.

I was always with the guy's who always tried to pick up the check and I also did. Now being retired I think I prefer to have separate checks with the exception of maybe two buds who will always be safe and pay their share.

But I did have a ex friend who fit the drill damn he would work so hard to get out of a bill, or if it was his turn he would take us to taco bell where his wife managed so we ate for free. real tight wad, I ended the friendship or so called as I tend to give to many chances after I bought a radial arm saw from him and before I picked it up he resold it to someone else blamed it on his son and said he didn't have the money, I finally told him to F***K off.

When I read it the first time I thought there were five guys in the cab, lol. Because quinta means fifth --> mitad, tercero, cuarto, quinto, sexto...

Great thread. Cheap people suck. Its cool if you're thrifty and don't have a lot of money to spend, though... cheap implies a certain selfishness, underhandedness, or stubborness that's an ugly quality in any person - let alone a wingman.

As a locals here we see this every week. Funny thing is, most of those cheap-ass guys their reputation proceeds them. If you think having a wingman like the one you described is horrible to travel, try observing it from the local side.

If all the guys, and your friends, all know that a certain wingman is super cheap, believe me, all of the chicas know it too.

There are so many jokes here about these guys - and the list is growing.

"I just bought a dozen tomatoes for 1 mil, why don't you guys come on over for supper? I making my homemade marsala sause. Oh btw, can you bring the meat, the liquor, tell your buddy to bring the beer, and the other to bring a dessert"

"After 1/2 hour I got her down to $40. After I return from the bathroom I bet I can get her to go with me or even less"

* Don't get me started about splitting dinner checks. I go tell horror stories all day just focusing on Il Ritorno meals!

Reminds me of that joke about, "How does a Jew say F.U.?"

great post - wait till football season. That is the time where most of the cheapies come to gamble....and brag how they spend all their time on Calle 6 after midnight and scored a little young flaca for 12,000 colones

Bottom line here IMHO: Your reputation in Costa Rica is either back or white, there are NO grey areas.
(Some guys like to call this place Mayberry RFD Costa Rica)

Thanks above that a lot of these types have moved on to other monger locals and Costa Rica has again been getting an influx of great guys to meet and know.

Hey Dave :) Love it! What an asshole - he borrowed the saw, claimed his son sold it and then refused to come up with either a replacement or the money - he would be off my Christmas card list :)

Your "friend" sounds like A SHNORER

Group I traveled with for years - some were fairly heavy drinkers; I am not - anytime we would all go out to dinner, they would have 3 - 5 drinks each, but would want to just split the bill - me, if knew that my portion had to be bigger simply by virtue of the fact I had 5 rum and cokes, well I'd be first w/ offering more money (one of the reasons I like separate checks; however when you have a group of 6 or 8 its not practical) - asked him about it and he said, "What, its no big deal for us all to split the bill - the drinks are not that expensive....."

True story; never mind about basic fairness (and yes, he had plenty of money).

I think there are many in CR especially residents, on a fixed income - these are not the guys I (or others I presume) are refering to in this thread. Its the guys who have it - even if you are frugal by nature, there are times you have to reach deep for other activities besides scratching your balls   :)

I hear ya I am disabled/retired now and my brothers are hauling and selling all my possessions, already I am wondering as I haven't been able to get a hold of him for a few weeks and I have a compound fracture in my foot, yeah I know perfect timing as I have to be out of this house in September. So I wrote him a letter. I had a full woodworking shop with at least semi professional tools so that and the house and sheds should be many thousands.

We'll see I have always been able to trust him and I am thinking he is just busy and it goes to voice mail right away like maybe it's not set up,his phone that is. It sucks to be in a position to need help to do anything, I will tell you I have already found out I have a lot less friends than I thought so maybe this will be a good thing.

Scuba bro
I am guilty but learned it cheaply, about your drinking I am not cheap but will have to learn to at least be fair. I don't drink but will still buy my share of drinks while I drink my diet coke I love so much. Can't wait to finally meet you if we can find a place to smoke some great Cubans.

Peace Brothers!

I was just reading a post by Joenasty1976 about the proper way to act with a Chica. He mentioned that " cheap and selfish people are a drag to be with". This seems to be a very common phenomenon, that I have noticed when mongering, that really pisses me off. I didn't want to highjack that thread so I thought I would discuss it further in a new one.

There is always that one guy in the group who tags along and is very happy to allow others to pay for his drinks, meals, and cab fare. In most cases this type of guy has plenty of money but would rather spend yours.

This guy spends his entire trip constantly worrying and complaining about how much things cost. When he is actually forced to pay his share for a cab or meal he painstakingly dissects the bill to ensure that he does not overpay by a penny. Interestedly I have found that the guys who can least afford it are the first ones to buy you a beer

I work hard for my money and according don't like to piss it away, but I also believe in paying my way.

Just got to this thread.....LMFAO.... BRAVO Devo 8)
