Ive been meaning to post this for quite some time now.(sorry i took so long) I had a reservation at La Amistad Superbowl weekend. When I showed up to check in the manager on duty says im sorry i dont have any thing for you. So I show him the email confirmations and still no room for me. On the desk I could see my reservation number on the papers crossed out and given to some other guest. I was so fricken pissed off. So he then sends me to the Hemmingway Inn. Nice place if your a backpacker, NOT MY STYLE. La Amistad will never get my business. I just want to let you guys know if La Amistad is booked and youve never stayed there before you might get bumped so they can take in a regular. Ive been staying at Sportsmens for the last 6 years going down to CR and will continue. The only reason i tried La Amistad was SL was booked up. I did get lucky and got a room at HLH. Sweeeeeet. I would also stay at HLH again. Those are some really cool people there as well.

Now that's the kind of info this board needs more of! (& less of all the drama!) Thanks for the heads up!

Did the staff gave you any info on why your reservation was given to someone else?? Can't help feeling that we are not getting the whole picture. I've never stayed at Amistad, but it doesn't make any sense that they would do that to a board member; knowing that for sure said board will let the whole board know. Maybe someone from La Amistad staff needs to check in and look into this...and keep possible future guests posted.

Hi Juilliano and everyone else...Here is my confirmation email from Carlos at La Amistad. I was given no explanation why they did this to me...Can you image walking down the streets with you suitcase and backpack looking for a hotel on superbowl weekend because you were bumped!!!! Sucks!!!

It freaks me out just imagining that my friend, and I'm sorry you had to go thru that. I've only stayed at SL on my few trips but had been considering Amistad to try to save some money; my experience with them so far has been their restaurant. I would think it in Amistad management best interest to have some kind of response other than "sorry, but I don't have anything for you" line. Over booking is always possible, I guess, but why not man up to their mistake? Too many other options out there to be loosing customers due to untrusted reservations. Never had any issues at all with my reservations at SL; and some of them have been made 3 to 6 months in advance; maybe they are the exception and not the rule. Like I said at the beginning, I had been considering them, but this puts them off my list.

I've stayed at LA 20+ times & never had any kind of issue like this. I suspect there's more to it.

Hi el ornitorrinco...there really isn't much more to it...like i said i tried to check in and basically got denied...the manager on duty did pay for my taxi to the hemmingway. But then i had to go hunt for a new place to stay after i saw the rooms. maybe you were the one who bumped me...were u there on your 20 + trip... superbowl weekend?? Im only trying to give all the brothers some advice. I had a terrible experience and im sharing it....i don't want anyone to have to go through what i did.

its certainly not something you hope for but at the same time it happens. sucks but it happens. there are guys that stay there all the time and if they come in and flip a benjamin over the counter someone is probably going to get their name crossed off. i'd be unhappy too but in all reality its life. those guys behind the desk aren't making bank to sit there all night.
sure you didn't cancel in a moment of drunken uncertainty? jk jk

Ummm...no, it wasn't me. I never just show up, hoping to get a room & super bowl means nothing to me. However, in any case where there's more than one side (like this), it only makes sense to get their version of events as well. In my experience, La Amistad doesn't operate this way, so I have to wonder if maybe you cancelled & forgot about it, or something else happened.

Why cant you just trust what the op says? He has said it twice that there isnt anymore to it, of him getting screwed on superbowl weekend. As for myself I stayed once and received the worst room in the place, no in room wifi, was told one price when I made the res, then when checking in was givin higher price by $20 a night, manger's answer to me was we never offer a room at that price, I Told him "you think I am making this up" he blows me off.

Sportmens was full and BK was still at dunn inn then, so I stayed and wished I didnt. Reviews of places work both way good and bad, screw your guests and pay the price of your short term thinking.

Why aren't we hearing from the La Amistad management on this thread?

Boyd would be all over this like flies on shit. And he would somehow make it right. Anybody in the hospitality business should do the same.

Intel is intel. Too much reverence for exalted CRT icons on here in my opinion.

It is difficult to reply about an event that happened over 5 months ago. The complaint should have been made in a timely manner and after first contacting the owner and giving him a chance to make it right. If you are unable to work out a solution with the establishment then you go public, again in a timely manner, with your grievance.

I have no reason to doubt the OP version I just feel the way he has handled the situation is not fair to the hotel.

i think the reason there has been no reply is that matt doesn't read this board any longer. at least thats what he told me last time i saw him.
i am sure in time he will get wind of the thread and maybe provide an answer. but i think amistad long ago made it clear we are welcome but not the only clients of his hotel.
having stayed there many times in the last five years and witnessing the hotel run i can say with all certainty that mistakes get made. intentional or unintentional.
still have to agree that given the chance matt would have tried to do something to make it right. say what you want about the guy he's never been anything but generous with most of us.
