I am planning my first trip to San Jose (along with trip to DR - haven't decided which one will be first and which second). It will be 3 day trip from Chicago, so must plan it so I don't waste time. Could you recommend me good hotel which is close enough to where the action is, but at the same time is secure, has good wifi and is not too expensive.
From what I researched I don't need visa as US citizen, I can pay everything in USD, and I wouldn't need a car. Anything else that is quite important and I am missing?

I would say that your safest bet for most bang for your buck would be HLH.

Seawub is right. HLH is the place for you ( and for many others ) for many reasons.

When the kitchen re-opens soon, after some changes, you won't even have to see the light of day until your next travel day.....unless you want to.

3 days is really short. It's about 10 hs travel each way from Chi when you consider to from airport and check in. Wouldn't be worth it.

Hotel Little Havana (HLH) without a doubt is the best place for a first timer to stay. The rooms are good, the hosts are great, and the chicas are fantastic! You may never leave the hotel during your entire trip.

If the HLH is booked up, then definitely try the Sportsmen's Lodge (SL). The SL usually books up first though.

Tip 1: I bring a ton of smaller US bills like ones, fives, and tens. That way I never worry about over paying, tipping too much, or getting back exact change.

Tip 2: Bring some cheap candy like "blow" pops. The chicas love them and I've always used them as a substitute for a monetary tip.

Tip 3: Even if you do not stay at the HLH, stop by at 5-7pm any day for happy hour and you will get all the information you need from CRT members.

Pura vida,

Allister1369

Broken-record Jazzbo talking here but--you can save serious bucks even on a short trip by becoming a paid VIP here. On topic--HLH is the best, for a variety of reasons.

You might want to check out sportmens lodge..you will have many more choices of ticas (Ladies) there. HLH is awesome but only limited number of girls. for first time you need to make the most of your trip. My first trip I stayed at Del Rey. Crazy! But hella fun...either hotel you'll have a blast. I've stayed at both and enjoyed them equally.

Siam: I have to disagree with your assement of the chica situation at HLH. Yes, there are 5 to 20 chicas there at any given time during biz hrs. IMHO, all but about 2 are stellar performers. I doubt you will get through all of them on a three day sprint.

I like SL, if rooms are available. For a newbie, I recommend HLH. If Bk gets one of his happy hr dance parties kickin at HLH..the experience is usually priceless and rarely, if ever see in SJO ( old Park Hotel being a possible exception).

Allister: You really tip with Blow Pops? You gotta be kidding me dude!..

The HLH line-up deserves much more than that for propina, especially the all-time All Stars.

Hotel Sportsman's Lodge or Hotel Little Havana. A dream trip for a newbie may be first 3 nights HLH and last 3 nights SL.

2nd trip Freebird if you are more into girls than drinking as the Freebird is a very private place without a bar. If a heavy drinker, the SL or HLH as a base.
