I was just reading a post by Joenasty1976 about the proper way to act with a Chica. He mentioned that " cheap and selfish people are a drag to be with". This seems to be a very common phenomenon, that I have noticed when mongering, that really pisses me off. I didn't want to highjack that thread so I thought I would discuss it further in a new one.

There is always that one guy in the group who tags along and is very happy to allow others to pay for his drinks, meals, and cab fare. In most cases this type of guy has plenty of money but would rather spend yours.

This guy spends his entire trip constantly worrying and complaining about how much things cost. When he is actually forced to pay his share for a cab or meal he painstakingly dissects the bill to ensure that he does not overpay by a penny. Interestedly I have found that the guys who can least afford it are the first ones to buy you a beer

I work hard for my money and according don't like to piss it away, but I also believe in paying my way.

cheap people suck period. i only ever find myself in a situation that the bill needs to be split w friends. if i don't know you we aren't trading rounds. never had much of a problem calling out guys like that either. its usually something they know is true as well as anyone hanging around them for a minute.

I guess my problem is the guys that want to pay for EVERYTHING, even over my protests. Protest to much and I'm a DB...

I've been down with a group of guys, and YEP there's always one, what usually happens we all go out to dinner he orders appettizers to dessert with a good priced entre, then says "just divide the check 4 ways, while I had only a salad. Always lets some one else to pay the taxi cab. Then I started asking for "La Quinta separado". I then started Telling A**Hole your share of the taxie is 2K colones.
Now, I limit my trips with one trusted wingman.

what I have noticed in this the more money they make the tighter they are.. Nothing to see the guys making 4-8 times what I do asking to borrow cab fare/drink money or other items ( among the other mentioned so far). What I really love it , when they finally get forced to pay, we divide right down to the exact penny or when they bring a lady or two along for dinner as their guests and expect to divide the bill based on the guys only.. So we end up paying to impress his ladies...

and they take "La Quinta separado" as a personnel insult ( no just pay your share for once )

I grew up with guys where the last thing you wanted to do is get a cheapskate rep. so I get the funds out fast, round up and don't count the pennies... Never worried about the guy who doing the money at a restaurant ends up a few extra cents or the tip is bigger, as long as he just as fast with the funds when not money man..

My jewish friends have a perfect yiddish word to describe such a person - A SHNORER (pronounced "sch nor er")

Basically, its someone always looking for something for nothing - goes beyond cheapness.

The classic example is a shnorer in a res't; sees Pie a la mode is an extra dollar; says to the watress, please bring me a piece of pie, I don't want pie al la mode, but maybe you could put a little ice cream on the side......

Candidly, I can take or leave traveling with others; I do fine on my own - and while I don't encounter the problems you mention with the group I normally travel with, I think based on the inevetable drama that always seems to ocour, I think I'm solo going forward (and this is a group I've traveled w/ to CR for 15 years) - just easier that way; plus I know some guys who are residents, and I can see and hang out with them.

I think me and flacoduro had the same wingman....I used to haul around this guy from Odessa Tx to Mexico cause I thought I needed a wingman....guy would never chip in for gas or pay his share of the cab, when he ate at places he would seldom leave tips....Then one night at about 2:00 am we were walking in Mexico from club to club and from a distance 6 Mexican military dressed in black started walking our direction. We we standing in the middle of the street and I flipped opened my cell phone and started dialing a cabbie as I was talking the soldiers came closer and I looked at my wing and I said whatever you do don't run....first thing he does is bolt and the military comes at us...I stand and yell at him to stop but he runs down half a block into a club....They grab me by the shirt and stick the gun on the side of temple and search me asking who the other guy is and why he ran and is he doing a drug deal....I say he got scared and what would you do if you saw 6 guys coming at you with M-16s...They say okay lets find this guy so we go looking and as we enter the club he is nowhere around ....so the soldiers go to the restroom and there he is sitting on the toilet squating on it. They start laughing and call him a coward he just takes it and is scared shitless.....
All the times we used to go to Mexico he always used to say how much of a badass he was and how he' got my back....a real peice of shit he was....

Of course Brother Juilliano is correct, though "quinta" is a perfectly good Latin/Spanish/Catalan/Portuguese/Italian word: http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/quinta

You are correct , I was spelling it Phonetically, spanish is not my first language, only learn to speak it , not write it, however I DiD in fact know better. I do apologize for my lack of attention to the detail/being sloppy.

Did not mean to sound like a smart ass or anything...just figure I should point it out. And I totally understand; english is my second language, but I've been speaking it longer now that I have my first language. Apologies if it came across as anything other that just a correction.

Perhaps this points out the differences (or some differences) between random wingmen and real friends.
