I'm looking at buying a motorcycle here in CR. What is the procedure for getting it in your name?

The guy mentioned some money was owed on the license but he would deduct that from the price.

Any thoughts guys?

Vehicle sales are done using an attorney that is chosen by the buyer as the buyer pays the costs associated with the sale. The attorney will draw up all the necessary paperwork and files the necessary paperwork with the registro to transfer the title. The attorney will do a search and discover any liens or fines that the seller must clear before he can sell the vehicle.

Suggest you read about the number of motorcycle and pedestrian death in Tica Times. They make up to nearly half of the fatalities. The drivers of cars and trucks in Costa Rica have no respect for Motorcycle riders and will pass within inches . I have witnessed a couple of accidents near HLH where as the bigger vehicle won. I have ridden motorcycles all my life and Costa Rica is not a place I would ride. It's your life. I just do not personally think it is worth it. Being a pedestrian you have to pay special attention because these drivers will clip you. I believe at times they do this on purpose A stop sign in Costa rica means to slow down to 40 mph.

Yes the death rate of motorcyclists is well above the death rate of motorists in Costa Rica. However that being said if you do any driving at all here you will easily seethe reason for that. Motorcycles riders disregard every traffic law that has ever been written. I had a neighbor whose only form of transportation was his Harley. He and others who belonged to the same club in Costa Rica rode all over without any problems because they drove like the did in the states. The did not ride in the middle of traffic lanes, did not run red lights, did not ride on the sidewalk, did not ride at night on a bike with no operating lights, the list goes on and on. Bottom line is if you ride safely and sanely your no more likely to have an accident then you would riding in the states.

I'd be more afraid of the pot holes, the missing sewer covers and the occasional tree growing in the middle of the road then from other drivers in CR on a bike It's definitely on my bucket list of places to ride and I have a friend in Santa Ana who is in an MC who has offered to show me the ropes. Hmmm... may just finally rent a bike next time I am down. It's been my experience as an owner and rider of several motorcycles that the best safety gear I have is between my ears.
