I have had the hamburger at the SL and I will say it was lack luster. The bun was dry and the meat was more like a frozen hockey puck. I will say the french fries were great. I think they have the best french fries in towns. I don't mean this has a joke. Some places really can't get it right. You would think it would be easy but for some reason places just don't get it.

I had the breakfast at lunch time at the SL and it was worth every C. Really good.
The spaghetti at the SL was solid. The chicken fingers good. The steak was average.
I do find the SL to be a little expensive and the food to be average. Just my humble opinion.

I had the steak sandwich and the Philly at HLH. I read somewhere in a previous post about the bun being dry and I am going to agree. Both sandwiches were good but not great. I also thought the meat was a little tough and maybe over cooked. In most cases I would eat it and not think twice about it and be happy with what I ate. If we are critiquing the food then I will be honest.

I will agree with what some others have said. The small places around the area seems to be the best. I have ate lunch at the Akropolis at the top of the hill from the Amistad twice. It is right in front of the hospital. There is a "food Court" there. I had 2 slices of pizza and coke for 2000C. It was really good. Today I had there Spaghetti for 1500C, half the cost of the SL and it was better.

The one thing I will say, this is all relative. One man's junk is another man treasure. I don't think there are right answers here only opinions. To be honest all the food I have eaten has been good. I have not gotten sick and overall I have been happy. I am just happy to have had the chance to have eaten at some of these places that I have been reading about.

I always thought the good at SL was OK. However, the kitchen has always done a great job of preparing freshly-caught fish. I've brought back fresh catches from the coast, and the SL staff always excelled at preparing a variety of dorado and tuna platters. Also, the best Thanksgiving Dinner I ever had was at SL in 2007. The cost was C 10,000 for guys and C 5,000 for dates, K*ds and seniors. The dinners included a complimentary glass of wine and dessert.

Chubbs has some decent food, The Fish sandwich is really good, the onion rings are great as well as the nachos and chicken fingers. The club sandwich on the other hand is merely a ham and cheese and I was really worried that my teeth were going to hold up through the bun. Everything I ate there was good except the club but it was a bad hangover morning so anything would have worked. The restaurant Criolla has some good food and an all time San Jose favorite is Chelles. At 2:00 am after drinking Centenario all night their Cuban sandwich seems to hit the spot.

I have never heard of this Akropolis of which you speak Dallasjeep68. When you say food court are you meaning more than one restaurant? Is it all pasta and pizza? I am going to have to go take a look.

It is at the top of the hill, on the right. There is a bakery in front and medical supply store and then at least 3 other restaurant on the inside. The also have some sandwiches and salads. For lack of a better word I used "food court".

I think there are really good places around if you look around. I am not bashing on the SL and I think it solid. I will still eat there. My favorite is their breakfast. I do hear good things about the whole fish that is not on the menu.

And I had a hard time finding it too. Here's an area picture from above with the + marking the spot dead center: http://wikimapia.org/#lat=9.9372911&lon ... =0&m=b&v=8 << It is kinda tucked away.

I like to have lunch at the Sportsman's Lodge. I shoot a little pool and eat the chicken burrito or chicken casado.

Pizza Akropolis is right across from the hospital in the little open air looking shopping area. If you go to the "popular" pharmacy up there it's hard to miss this place. It's in a more modern looking building than the other buildings (besides the hospital).

"La Flor" is next to the place that used to be called "Faros/Dos Gringos"?

The Del Mar is my favorite with Soda Peru being a close second.

In case the newer Brothers don't know about this place, here's a Thread from '09--older commentary, yes, but I doubt anything's changed:
