Always happy to read what is on your mind Circus. A big HOLA to you. My take on it is that there is more of a vibe that SJ is on the rise. Not like Asia, but definately better than in the past. Tourism aside, I see construction and road renewals, more police all over downtown to the point that if you look like trouble they are on you like a fly to a cowpie.
They are checking papers constantly on young people walking around. Every chica I spoke to was either a resident or citizen of CR. Immigration is doing their job, IMHO.
The problem here for me is inflation. not a big deal but prices are rediculous. $8-$10 t-shirts,$7 casadas at sodas, even El Chavo was 600c and now 1600c for a simple taco pollo. Not a deal breaker.(did I mention my $601 airfare from Miami?)but I'm not happy about it. Thankfully, P4P is still about the same price as always.

On my last CR trip in 2010 I noticed costs rising. Interesting condo building is on the rise.
In Canada condos are booming big time in Toronto, Calgary, Montreal & Vancouver (aka china town  ).
$360k for a 'shoe box in the sky' as its called. Housing market is due for a 15% correction.
As in mining.....what goes up,must come down....

I can only speak about the area of west San Jose, Escazu and Santa Ana.

There is no sign of a recession in this area. Shopping malls and plazas have plenty of business, restaurants are busy and construction, residential, commercial and office is booming. Lots of cars on the road in spite of climbing gas prices.

If there is a recession in CR it is not in the western part of the central valley.

Howdy Scuba:

Damn....That airfare from Miami is a bitch....I've never seen it that high. Then again you should see what it costs from the pits of Jax.

As I stated before, seems like CR is on another planet. Just like in the 70's U.S. recession....CR keeps rolling along. That is ....for native citizens.

I've had several friends that sold their property in CR during the last few years. They headed back to their respective countries. The glitter had lost it's polish. That old saying, "If you want to make a million in Costa Rica, bring two million" seems to still apply. It is indeed a difficult place to build a business....especially for gringos. And, due to the inflation...not really a jewel to retire in.

Panama is appearing to be a much better place to invest and live. The info-structure is a hell of a lot better. Last time I went to the Arenal volcano I had to wait at a bridge for another vehicle to cross on a one way bridge....remember that you travelers of CR?

As we get older....we still look for some convenience and not have to put up with crap in order to live comfortably. I love milk....but try and find a good tasting and cold milk in CR....case closed. And don't even ask me about finding a good steak in CR, SJ.

Damn, the pits of Jax appears to be better than I thought.

Today.....THIS day, 30 May 2012 is the REAL MEMORIAL DAY HOLIDAY which I do believe SR. Greengo is referring to.

However, for the first time I differ from SR. GREENGO based on his statement
"im spending the best years of my life dealing with a bunch of greedy malformed cocksuckers who think theyre entitled to a free lunch because karl marx wrote a convoluted trap to control the pyschosexually dysmorphic masses.....".

Don't be hating and blamin on Karl for the "situation" there in Costa Rica: It was CREATED BY, GREEDY, now they gets what comin' to 'em ex-pats (Tico special family members a very close second) who sought to exploit in the name of "ME!!! ME!!!!".

Cannot blame Karl for the FACT "....in costa rica 20 percent of the population is more or less directly tethered to one of a relatively small group of families..the concept that one in 5 of those around them is making 50 to 150 k a year on permanent vacation in resorts and cities around the world..pretending to fix the problems they created in the prior year.. for just being born into a family of mindless jibbering peacocks..is waaaaay beyond the shuffling hordes hiding in cement cubicles.. content with the life model of praying nobody is naive enough to call the cumdrunk thieving lying microcephalic cops in case of trouble :)...". Nope that is something Costa Rica carved out all for themselves....granted....with a whole bunch of "help" from certain and specific "sections" of the USA. *shrug*

Greengo and Steven1:

Are you guys on drugs or what. That has to be some of the worst writing and non sense that I have ever seen posted. You make no sense.

Please, post something that we can understand. Stupid is as stupid does I guess.

Hell, I'm just trying to find answers to the economic climate in CR. Comparing it to several decades ago as to comparing it to the U. S. economy today.

That was really weird.
