Hey all,

Wish I had found this forum sooner, I've been flirting with going for ages, but have a couple weeks off and decided to bite the bullet. I've booked my flight and will be doing this solo. I'm early 40s and minimal spanish, but would love some advice on which hotel to book where I can get the most out of this experience and hopefully meet some like minded fellows to show me the ropes. I've seen various posts on SL and HLH but to be honest a bit of guidance would be most welcome.

Dalkng: Welcome to the board and to your maiden voyage. I recommend SL or HLH for first timers. I think both are booked those days. If booked, I recommend Castillo or Hemingway, due to their proximity to the pachanga.

Another thing..Amistad has a good deal for CRT VIPs right now. I've stayed there in the past and really enjoyed it..close to the action also.

Thanks for the answers and PMs, guess I'm in for a pound as it were. Gonna try for SL and HLH and Amistad in order barring any other options.

You might want to try Dunn Inn or La Amistad - I haven't stayed at Dunn, but I hear good things. I have stayed at LA and liked it, reasonable, clean, good food, quiet (except the train but it didn't bother me).

Also be sure to get your CRT card - it will pay for itself on one trip. Anyway, me and my buddies will be around, mostly staying at SL, except one guy staying at HLH. We're in your same age range too...I think you'll do just fine at HLH...to me that's kinda like being able to just put your big toe in the water to test the temperature...Not suggesting you use your toe....

Boyd at HLH will take great care of you. You should be able to place bets right there at the bar too if you like to bet on sports. We'll be around HLH for sure so please say hi - you can't miss us - 1 white guy from Texas, a Chinese guy, and two mixed Asians...we'll be having a good old time.

Peace.

I will also be staying at HLH and am scheduled to leave 5/31 so far unless I decide to extend my trip which I am uncertain about so far.

Dalkng, Me and my boys will be at La Amistad during that time. We'll come and check you out at HLH on Saturday June 2.

Well, went with HDR for 5/27, figured I might as well get one day in there for my virgin cruise. If nothing else, I can wait it out in the casino/bar until I get to HLH. Hope to meet up with any/all of you and so feel free to shoot me a PM if you're looking for me. I'm excited about all this, was an 8 day trip a bit of overkill?

I think eight days are just enough. You'll leave with a big smile on your face and less money in your wallet. Enjoy.
