I really want you all to help me on this Thread--I believe to my soul you have other great examples ( reggae versions gleefully accepted IF they were recorded first--not hard to imagine with N.O. tunes).

Being a realist, I expect a chorus of yawns, but somebody cares...and may respond.

Warren Haynes could do a cover of Rudolph the Rednose reindeer and it would totally rock. He is one of the most awesome musicians ever born. I love the song he does with Billy Gibbons (Broke down on the Brazos).

Why does it have to be the first recording covered as opposed to a popular version that the band is 'covering'?

Brother T&V brings up a good point--Elvis impersonators "cover" his style on songs even though Elvis may not have been the first to do a particular song.
