FWIW, others have stated that they have felt safe at HLH, but for the purposes of this topic it is worth exploring both sides of the tape.

THERE ARE NO SECURITY ISSUES AT HLH.......PERIOD

Amen - and no matter how many times you post about it - guys still don't get it - not that the OP in the other thread in question made it particulary easy to follow.

Randy - the dispute was over cigars - never over "security" at HLH - go back to the thread in question and read some (mine in particular) of the posts - sorry, and not a personal shot, but a thread goes, what, 5 pages and guys (Randy is not the only one) just don't get it.

Good tips and advice. I run a tab at only at Blue Marlin, but I keep it at my side of the bar, they notch it each round. Make note of what the cost is per unit after the 1st one and then do the math at check out. Works. But, I have been there a bunch over the years and I know most of them except for the new ones. I let them know I know Gabby.

Great advice, and I'm taking it all in. HLH does sound like the best place to stay materially with the best prices, from what I'm reading. The only places I went to on my last visit were the HDR, Key Largo, and Blue Marlin. Very few things in life are as good as advertised, but it seemed to me that the Ray was exactly that. I enjoyed the company of beautiful women for what I thought were reasonable prices ($150 for a threesome with two of the hottest women in the place- C'mon!). Besides the rooms being substandard, why shouldn't I just stary there? My bottom line question is: Of all of the options of places to stay, which offers the best combination of freindliness to chicas, access to chicas, and convenience to other places where quality chicas are located? If someone can answer that, drinks are on me :)

Probably Sportsmans Lodge - and HLH a close 2nd  :P

The issue w/ HDR - other than the one you point out; the rooms are substandard (and last redecorated when Jimmy Carter was in the White House    ) and they were (although not if they are runing their "specials") way overpriced - it just tends to mark you as a rookie (I know some will disagree) and you get a girl that tends to look more at the clock, b/c her next Phuck is just a few floors down  .

But know this - while you can have a great time with a girl you meet at HDR - it tends to attract the hardcore of the hard core.

"The only places I went to on my last visit were the HDR, Key Largo, and Blue Marlin"

Well, that's the case with many - and they do themseves a disservice - you need to get to the Massage Parlors and break the HDR/KL mentality - lots of great places to explore.

I'd suggest you PM a member named Bilko, or BangBang57 (BB does not post, but does read the board) - and get with him to arrange a tour - you will see so much that you were unaware - and by all means join the board as a paid member - the discounts alone will make it worth your while.

Oh, and one more suggestion - read, ask questions, by all means take a tour - but make your next trip one outside of your comfort zone - 5 or so years ago I did a tour w/ BangBang (we have since become friends) and I saw so much - I had been coming to CR since 1997, and realized that, like you, I knew the HDR and KL - and then realized how much I didn't know :!:   :)

Scuba1 you constantly promote these guys, but since have not seen either for years are they actually doing "tours" and if so why don't they promote it themselves on CRT?

Well, I have met both sterling gents in the last year and as to self-promotion--it's not really a business they run, just an elective and selective thing they do for righteous guys, hence no trumpet-blowing/banners unfurling ya-ya.

I don't constantly promote anyone or anything -

I mean, its not a regular thing like a few years ago when every thread you were involved in with Florida (Rest in Peace) and Spanky had one or more of you being phucked up the ass and morphed into something gay that would have embarrased an 8th grader. Now that bullshit was constant......

In fact, you guys' antics was the main impetus for my starting to post, because I've been a member for 6 years, and read the board for 2 before that - and the constant references to "Fluffy", clap clap clap, Irish Drifter handle change, excessive amount of icons in every thread, most threads ending with you being pounded from behind by a tranny, or a gay dude just got to me.

Now that I've said something I've wanted to for 6 years, I will answer your question :)

I know Pops has been the guy recommended for tours - he's also been in a recovery mode since his accident and last I heard he was not doing them - subject to change; I don't monitor posts about Pops as closely as I did yours of a few years ago   :P

Re Bilko - he does advertise his Tour services elsewhere - I know him personally, and am happy to mention him, as he lives in SJ and knows his stuff - why he does not post about his services, or advertise here; you would have to ask him - but it does not take away from the fact that he could be a valuable resource to someone looking for info.

BangBang posted for years, and if you want to see the side of San Jose few tourists who seldom go beyond the HDR, KL, HLH, etc he is a great resource too - while he no longer posts (a perspective I understand    :P ) more and more as time goes by) he does read the board and I know he has done many tours in the past and likely would if contacted.

I get nothing personally out of these recommendations other than it helps a new guy tremendously and believe one tour is worth 3 trips of trying to find out on your own, or listening to "experts" (so called...) who might mean well but just don't have the experience or perspective of the guys I mentioned.

Final reason - some years back, but in recent times, every request for assistance, especially in the Newbi section was met by - often numerous - reponses along the lines of "Do a search!!"
Not so much anymore, and count on the fact that despite humor (and yes, often a little sarcasm   ) the recommendations for these guys - and Pops too - wish a full and speedy recovery - are made in the spirit of assisting someone navigate a place that seems simple but has many layers to it!

A quick search of "bilko" shows otherwise  anyway just wondered if he and BB were actually still doing tours.

Whatever...spent more time then I should have giving you my reasons and answersing the question; what annoyed me a little (other than your antics when Florida was around) was you wrote it like I was getting something out of it - kinda like that tool Frank Casio, or the other asshole that posted constantly about the "Soprano Discount"

Trust me - mentioned strictly in the spirit of helping out :)

PS Tell Fluffy I say hello - clap clap clap - did you know Irish Drifters first handle was Ding Dong - and would you not say its amazing that CRT does not have more members, especially paid one's?????? Did you know that, mommy?? (Jesus....this was from memory - gotta check into the nuthouse soon                                         )

Well, Hank - I enjoyed most of your post - Jesus; I thought I retained a lot of BS, and the fucktard nonsense posted - but I'll take my hat off to you, assuming you did not search the board for hours to come up with the quotes you did  :P

Re Bilko and BangBang, since I know them personally (saw both last Month in fact) I know for a fact that they certainly would give a tour regardless if they knew the guy or not - they don't do it for free naturally, but they would do it. And you post I'm a know it all - Sheesh!

If I come across as a know it all, perhaps I do know a hell of a lot more more than the average guy, as well as less paticence for idiots - I have 40 trips over 15 years, and I'm always willing to share info based on my own knowledge and experiences

At least many of my posts include humor, as well as good info - since in over 1000 posts its been one joke posted, I guess you are refering to my writing style.

No, Hank, before I started posting we had a ton of posts by Frank Casio, the Soprano discount guy, and any thread populated by Florida, PacoLoco, and Spanky ended up with one of them - usually Paco - being phucked up the ass. Not literally, of course

In fact, I think I bring a lot to this board - if you seriously don't, use the ignore feature - but you woun't because you love what I post and love what I say and love when I point out a tool :)

Health and Happiness to all...........

444 Security issues arise all over Costa Rica. I have traveled extensively in Costa Rica and Nicaragua and the best advice I can tell you is always travel in a group at night and always take a taxi at night . HLH is no more dangerous than the other 50 hotels in the area. Police robbing you is more likely if you walk at night. There was a recent incident where a crt member had money taken by corrupt police officers. Now if you double cross someone or get in an altercation expect the worst, these guys do not play. Be grateful they just show you their gun instead of shooting you. It is the same way in the States .
