There are no "packages". It's just a difference of how much you want to load up on your SIM. There are 3 choices:

¢2500 ($5)
¢5000 ($10)
¢10000 ($20)

The local calling rate is about ¢40 (8 cents a minute) per minute for outgoing and ¢2 per outgoing text. Incoming calls and texts are free for the recipient. So figure how much you'll need. Outgoing calls to the US are about 160 colones per minute.

The off-peak rates (12midnight-5am...how many calls do people make at those hours ) are 20% lower.

Personally, I get the 2500 and then reload as needed. That will usually last me about 5 days. You can reload online or buy a reload card at many places downtown. You can reload from 100-10,000 online and the reload cards start at 1,000.
