Prostitution is legal but you can't smoke in public places. Seems weird to me. They may go after the prostitution next?

There is no correlation between smoking and prostitution.

You choose to use the services of a prostitute and there is no health risk to you or any other bystander if you decline their services.

Those who choose not to smoke can be at a significant health risk from those who do smoke in public places.

The issue of no smoking laws leading to no prostitution laws is a “smokescreen” (pun intended) raised by smokers. There is not a scintilla of evidence that one will lead to the other.

In my opinion there is a correlation on bans on smoking and bans on prostituion.
Little by little the dogooders from the U.S. impose their values on all the countrys they do trade with. Coercing them to make the same laws we have here. Labor laws with free trade, even this anti smoking thing is tied into some international treaty I think.
Just read the following from A.M. Costa rica about the raids at the Del Ray and Key Largo. Since the U.S. feels that Costa Rica hasn’t done enough regarding human rights guess what will likely be next on their list?

“The police operation comes in advance of the U.S. State Department human trafficking report. That comes out in June. The Fundación Rahab receives significant grants from the United States to rehabilitate former prostitutes. The United States has been critical in the past of Costa Rica's efforts against human trafficking.
According to the Fundación Rahab, prostitution is an expression of masculine power and is a relationship that is characterized by the domination and control on the part of who pays (the client) to use the body of a person (the woman who sells the service).

The foundation rejects the concept that prostitution here is a legitimate business, despite many persons who prostitute themselves willingly.

The foundation cites societal pressures and says that this type of work is against the fundamental human rights of a person to live without violence or mistreatment.

The foundation also said that prostitution is not recognized as a form of work by the International Labor Organization. The foundation's views are outlined on its Web site”

Wow... quite a leap. The government bans smoking and mongers are shitting their pants thinking pu*sy will be outlawed next. That will never happen. Here's why... 99% of the hookers have no education/skills to work at anything other than what they are doing. Plus, the fact that there are not enough jobs now for those who want to work, much less adding thousands more to the labor pool. And the gov't has no way to support them if they can't pull tricks anymore. How will the hookers and the people who depend on them survive? I'm sure the US will help.

Orange, just to play the Devil's Advocate. If they did outlaw prostitution they could solve the issue by placing the burden on then men. Changing or enforcing Ch*ld support. This would eventually create a society in which the men *may* be less likely to have a desire to father Ch*ldren from multiple partners. Also, they could create jobs by redirecting a much better effort towards education and job training. I personally think that Costa Rica has a lot of growth potential.

For the record, I do not see it happening as an act of law but, I do think there is the potential of ending prostitution as we know it.

Things are evolving in Costa Rica anyway. I have girls soliciting business via Facebook these days. Three good dates lined up over the weekend just from Facebook, Let the government try and shut that down.

It would take a close reading of the law and regulating docs to know for sure but electronic cigarettes might be a way to go:

True story: a pal was recently taken to the ER with back spasms. While in the ER, he whips out and used his vaporizer and nobody said a word to him. If there is a healthy way to inhale nicotine, this is it, mainly because of the lack of inhaled carcinogens.
Here's a product demo from a SWFl merchant. Fascinating! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pf9w2ChoDL4
Is there a store in SJO where one can get supplies? This might be an opportunity for some entrepreneurial spirit.

I'm all about outlawing smoking in public places where others are forced to breathe in the poison, but the government of NYC is talking about taking it a step further.

This morning, I heard something that even I do not agree with. Morning news reported that New York City Mayor Bloomdork is proposing a new law that would require apartment buildings to ban smoking in all apartments. According to him, "This would create more available non-smoking housing".

I agree with the public bans, but to prohibit people from smoking in their private residences is a bit over the top.

Thanks Brother ID for the rapid response. That Website clearly states that it is a way around the smoking ban...because you are not smoking, merely vaporizing some oil. I'll bet their biz skyrockets and deservedly so.

+1 Red. Our great fascist government is no longer content with telling only the americans what and where they can smoke, what they should eat, and how they should act. Now the IRS is leaning on other countries to show them YOUR bank account activities. The US is telling different countries when and where their people can smoke. Pretty soon they will be regulating the rice and beans. This may seem to be a trivial law, but mind you this is how it starts. Where does it end? Americans (we the sheeple) have already conceded many of our constitutional rights. Be very careful with this one my brothers. It is not important whether you smoke or not. I had a college professor who said "when I hand you an acorn, I want you to see the whole tree". The acorn in this matter is the squabble about whether or not you enjoy smoking or not. The tree is fact that Costa Ricans and tourists alike just lost a freedom. What is the next freedom my friends? IMHO, pura vida will be a saying of the past at this rate.
