La Amistad, all the good things have been mentioned, but much better breakfast than Castillo. Eggs done the way you want, usually pancakes or waffles, a little extra (but worth it) for bacon, sausage or home fries. [u][b]There is a Guest fee of 3,500 colones (doesn't happen at Castillo),

When did La Amistad invoke a guest fee? Does it apply to CRT VIPs as well?

There is no chica fee at HLA. He probably meant breakfast costs 3500 colones for a guest... :)

I've stayed at La Amistad 20+ times & never had any issues with bringing chicas in. Used to stay at Castillo prior to that, but the rooms at LA are nicer. Darren & the rest of the staff are indeed great. Rudy & the guys at LA are great too.

Castillo is and always will be my home away from home. I do not need to impress the ladies with a $150 room, then they dont have a problem asking and getting cien from the rich gringos. Darren is the manager at Castillo and has been for years. You can make reservations by calling them, the number is on their website or on here. They will answer in Spanish, but just say you want to make a reservation and they quickly switch to english. I find this the easiest way to make the reservation.

Lets be realistic for convinience first would SL if you can get a room in new wing.
Second would be Dunn In if you can get a renovated room in back second floor.
Third I would say La Amistad but Boyd doing so good with HLH, you would probably
have the time of your life with chicas at an incredible price when you stay there.
After that jst stay away from DR.

Some really great advice in here. I too am a newbie planning a visit on the 26th of April and do not know where to stay yet.

Do any of these hotels offer two beds in their rooms? and what would be the rates with CRT discount?

I'm a BIG fan of HLH. See their web site for pictures of the rooms and rack rates. Some rooms have two beds.

Boyd offers one free night for each four that are paid for at the rack rate. That's a 20% or 25% discount, depending on your attitude about math. Beyond that, he has the CRT VIP discount for fewer or additional nights. HLH happy hour is great for meeting like-minded dudes.

But the best part is that HLH residents pay $35 for an hour with any of the outstanding talent at HLH. That's the best deal in town for many of the all-time all-stars. You can bring in girls from anywhere without a chica fee as a VIP member.

Call Boyd (he has a US phone number) or use the message section on the HLH web site for any questions.

Great general advice and agree with you 100% :) But not gonna work for this guy......

The OP posted very clearly:

"family members will want to know where I am staying and can be expected to Google wherever that is, which pretty much rules out SL, HLH and of course HDR! "

Thanks Scuba........I forgot what I read a week ago.

These days, my memory works for only a week.

But somehow, HLH sticks in my mind. I've been trying to figure out why.

For people that are trying to hide their miss-adventures in Costa Rica

Every hotel that is CRT friendly is going  to throw up a red flag

If you need to hide what you are doing, do not half ass it, if it is important to you!

Stay at the Presidente... they hate us

Lots of MP action...plus there are many Love motels, that are real nice, or book an extra room at a chica friendly place for a night or two

One does not have to stay in the belly of the beast to have a good time

Cover your ass.... It may save it

I do not have to hide but discertion is important to me

I have one apt I use and the last line in there add is ... We have Christian values and expect the same from our tenants... place is full of gringo dogs :D talk about a good cover story for when in country doing Gods work of helping the poor single moms

Can anyone tell me if the Sportsman Lodge offers two beds in a room and if so what the price is per night?

The Sportsman Lodge is a fine venue that has some suites with 2 beds.

But beware-----the SL is very popular, not too huge, and is often booked far in advance. So plan ahead or be lucky.

Well I'll be damned!! Darren had mini fridges put in the old rooms. What about the newer upstairs rooms? Castillo is the first place I ever stayed there in SJ, and while I have also stayed at Sportsmans, which is great, fantastic, really. Spent two nights in HLH in 2009, but it was under different management at the time. I'm a big Castillo fan. If you want, tell folks back home you stayed at the Holiday Inn. With a $75.00 Chica fee, it won't turn up on any monger radar, except Charlie Sheen. ;)
