Gentlemen:

I have been bombarded with emails, and PM's from long standing members with regards to recent posts and incidents taking place on the site from a few members. I will not even go into detail of the variety of different things I've received as they are too numerous to mention. This board has remained controversy free for the better part of 8 years. If you remember back to an old site which is long gone, it was destroyed by a few posters who decided they were going to turn the site into their own playground. This eventually led to the demise of the forum and the site and eventually CRT was born.

I have always maintained that no one person or persons would be the downfall of this site. We have enough issues with recent attempted legislation that would give all of us hobbyist and business owners alike enough trouble which may come to fruition soon enough, but again we shall see how that passes and deal with it as it happens.

I also over the years have gone to great lengths to be patient and not to interject or interceded with many of the antics that go on here only stepping in when things get out of hand. There have long been a group of individuals who either skirt the rules or stay just within them. I also know that over the years ever single solitary one of these persons or not and have never been VIP's.

This site has long maintained being free to forum and paid for the discounts. That will be continued to a point. We are instituting a policy shortly as soon as the software is built of limiting NON VIP Members post count to a certain number. Once they reach a certain quota they will either need to join as a VIP or will not be able to post. This will also scan automatically for IP Addresses and when a duplicate address is located with new screen name or handle this will also link that IP address / screen name and not allow any additional posts until they join and support the site.

I will point out that ANY PREVIOUSLY PAID VIP at any time during the course of the site existence will be exempt from this limit system. Many long time paid members for many years no longer go to Costa Rica or have need for the site but still visit on occasion and continue to contribute.

Many in fact almost all sites / forums limit posts to non paid members and it has been a long time coming here, and substantial coding man hours to get this accomplished within the forum itself. Once we institute this there may be a few names or IP's that get inadvertently linked etc because they post from public places within the CRT community. I will deal with them on a individual basis as need be.

Thanks again for your patience as we work our way to continue to make a site you want to visit and contribute.

In the Interim remember you can limit who you see post at any time Go to the User Control Panel - then left hand side manage friends or foes manage foes and add them to the list. It will block any views or contact from that member.

What sucks is having to spend the money for coding in the first place. Banning an individual would most likely work, but persons with multiple personality disorder, well, I guess it takes a bigger effort.
Thanks, Admin 1, I believe this will make it a better site.
Regards, 911 Driver

I just activated the "ignore" feature (manage friends/foes). It works well... and no trace of the more banal posters (VIP & non-VIP) whom I choose to ignore. IMO, this is an easier (and less costly) option for weeding out BS on this board. :|

Done. I do have one question. Is this a two way process? Although, the code you are writing to create restrictive criteria on users is very basic especially for this boards software and language, it should be just as easy to make this a two way process if it is not already.

Although, it seems to me that there are already phpbb 3 mods already out there which can do what you want and more, so why write code?

If I simply wanted it to cut off a poster at a certain post count than yes there are PHBB 3 mods out there. Unfortunately like anything else Tomas wants something specific :)

Finding multiple IP addresses, persons registering from same IP with new names, Excluding past VIP's giving me some mod options, etc. The basic mod can be implemented but it would than become a manual thing to weed out all the conflicts, etc.

Some of these mods should be named TOMAS MODS :)

Thanks Admin 1! I'm looking forward to the changes. I think it's going improve the site for everyone. Although, I'm a little hesitant to utilize the ignore feature, as it would make some of the threads confusing.

Thank You Admin

My only other suggestion would be to make it a pay only site, That would fix it all. To not lose good people the free could continue for a week giving them time to join. Personally anyone who can't afford this site can't afford to buy pu*sy :)

Gentlemen:
Our web people implemented the code change but I'm not quite sure its working the way we wanted it to. :( I've had some reports that people have lost the ability to post or can't see the forum at all. Please send me a PRIVATE MESSAGE if you are having posting issues. Obviously you can't post.
THanks

Working fine on my end. As a lifetime VIP myself I have found a wealth of knowlege within these threads that has more than covered the cost of membership. You might even consider a voluntary donation button for those that would just like to send some $ in, to keep the site up and running, along with upgrading it. Thanks ADMIN 1
