I see Interbus is now $15 - I think it was $7 or $10 when I last took it.

Are taxis still going for $20?

Been a while since I've been in CR ... essentially I'll spend the extra $5 for a taxi if that is still the going rate.

And, while I'm at it - anybody else on the 2/18 AA flight #1051 from MIA? Wanna share a taxi to SL?

Unless you have a lot of luggage, it's easy to take the TUASA public bus (red bus) from directly in front of the airport, at the street level, to the last stop downtown at Ave. 2 and Calle 12 for a grand total of 75cents US. It takes about 25-30 minutes. The busses leave the airport about every 15-20 minutes during the day. The busses are marked "San Jose". Just ask the driver "Directo San Jose?". If he says "Ci", get on and give him the colones. They make change, but you need colones. You can taxi (unless you want to walk) from the last stop in town to almost anywhere downtown for $2.

Agree 100% about the posts advocating the public bus - just remember to ask "Directo" otherwise you will stop in Alaluala - not the end of the world - I've got lots of trips and travel light, night or day the public bus is the best option for me. With the taxi to my hotel and the bus fare its less than $3.00 vs $20 - 30 for a taxi and +/- $15 with Interbus w/ a small tip - lately I'm hating all but the public bus.... :P

OTOH.....

If you see some like minded folks at the airport, ask them if they are going downtown (they don't have to be going to your hotel; does not matter) and see if you can share a cab - 3 sharing is ideal but 2 works too.

The taxi rates have really increased over the past few years - you still should be able to negociate a one way for $20.

Thanks guys ... my flight will be landing around 5pm Saturday. Think I'll go for the bus and give it a try.
