Another first for me .... While checking in for my return flight to SJO this morning in Houston, I couldn't complete the kiosk checkin and was told to get a CO agent. I did and was told in needed to show my return ticket out of CR.

This was a return trip of a round trip ticket SJO-IAH-SJO. I always carry my next trip ticket as I know it is a requirement to have a ticket out of CR but this was the first time I have ever been asked. They entered the date of my next flight out of CR and all was fine.

Interesting as this was a flight to get al the paperwork to finalize residency. Hopefully that can be completed in the next few weeks - at least the filing and number so I don't have to leave again.

By the way, I am using one of the attornys at ARCR and the whole thing is about $1600 soup to nuts. It's been painless (so far) and very professional.

Hope this helps others.

Woozo

I used Sindy Gonzalez at ARCR for my residency (which went fast, no snags), now using her again for getting permanent residency. Fee is $600.00. Not sure what it is now for a residency ab initio (from the beginning). If you'd like her email address, pm me.

So I had a meeting with Sindy Gonzalez since she was recommended on here as well as my brother and a couple of friends. Her office is in Casa Canada in SJ which is adjacent (obviously connected) to the ARCR. Her fee was $1600 all in wirh her getting the paperwork from the U.S. Yesterday her associate took me to get my fingerprints and to the Embassy to get Social Security clearance since I am doing it as a Pensiado.

While at the Embassy I decided to get more pages for my passport. Good news was that this whole process took less than 15 minutes. Bad news was that it cost $82 for the additional pages.

Might just be something to the Mayan Calendar end of the world prediction. I mean if "Mr. Perpetual Tourist" is actually going to become a resident who can rule anything out. :P  :P  :P

Now I am really convinced the Mayans were correct. A Greengo post that does not require a decoder ring, VB seeking residency all posted on the same day. :P  :P  :P

Just returned from 90 day out in Nicaragua. No problems coming back into Costa Rica. No questions asked, no request to produce a ticket out of the county, didn't ask to see any amount of money as in the past, everyone was getting 90 visas with no questions asked. Actually didn't fill in the space to indicate # of days which is automatic 90 days. Due to construction didn't even inspect luggage.

Gray, the problem is it's a hit or miss. A few years back I never heard of anyone getting anything less than a 90 day visa. Today one cannot count on it. If you're a visitor to the gulch for a few days it doesn't matter. It's a different story now for people who have homes or investments here and have to plan on leaving every 90 days. To me it would be a pain to plan on a trip every 90 days just to renew tourist visa. Make it 15 or 30 days, then it's even more of a pain. Being a resident means I have to pay into the CAJA which I don't use. But for under $2K a year I have very good private medical care insurance with INS.

I understand most don't like the beach but anyone know about long term Beachfront or View rentals furnished are going for non gringo pricing for a one or two bedroom condo house or ? preferably not Jaco. Two bedrooms would be nice so I can invite you all up for a visit.

I have been talking a realtor but have Zero trust and pulling a number out of her is like getting a root canal. Web pricing seems reasonable considering face to face it will be lower.

Thanks for any help. Oh and I do have more than $400 a month to spend if I stretch it I may have $500  Naw just kidding I am not rich but am doing okay. I could make the new residency amounts

Dave
