I had the spring rolls and the kung pao chicken. It was rather more food than I'm used to eating but there's no way my stomach should still feel so bloated six hours later...think maybe I got mild food poisoning. Almost ruined the night's other activities. :-/ And I'm flying out in a few hours, hope I don't have problems on the plane.

Has anyone else ever had an experience like this eating there? Be a pity if I had to cross it off my list due to a bad experience.

Has happened to me on two occasions in CR. I went to the Pharmacy across the street from hospital Calderon (spelling) the hospital near SL and Amistad and the guy behind the counter gave me a antibiotic shot and a half gallon of an orange colored liquid to help with the dehydration. Took me a few days to completely shake it. Not sure I would classify it as food poisoning, I've had FP and the vomiting and other symptoms were much more intense. I think it was some weird bacteria that my body couldn't deal with.

Good luck,
Rascal

I visited Tin Jo twice over the last 2 weeks, tried the veg sushi and miso soup (not very brave) The girls of course had to have shrimp and a fish dish..picked at them, then took the rest home. Maybe it's just me but the food seemed rather plain and bland, service was good, had the warm saki that helped the meal. Overall, I won't be going out of my way to go back. I really like getting the stink eye from the older women patrons who see their hubbies watch the girls come and go.

Not sure if it's still relevant as it was 6 years ago but my fav and I both had 'the walk fast' (mild case of the runs) after eating there. Only one day and I have been back since but only a few times.

If you can make it out to Pavas 2 blocks west of the US Embassy try Isla Verde, really great Chinese!

Well, I'm back home, and feeling better. (Trip report to follow.)

I ate in some pretty dubious-looking joints in my stay in CR, including street food and some pretty much tico-only places in those tiny little indoor malls in the downtown SJ shopping district. (I'm brave. I'll eat anywhere.) My thing is, if I travel to another culture, I try to stay away from American-style food, for the most part. I can get that back home.

This was the only thing that I thought might have bothered me. Kind of odd for that to happen in what seems like a higher-end restaurant whose target crowd seems to be tourists and expats, and that seems to have a good rep generally.

Maybe it was an unrelated stomach bug, or maybe I just plain ate too damn much.

That place had health issues this June, http://www.ticotimes.net/Current-Editio ... ne-24-2011.

Chinese restaurants always make me think twice, unfair as that sounds.

FYI, it is not Chinese, but pan Asian... Huge different, almost like saying that Mexican food is the same as Peruvian or ColOmbian..
