I should clear this up.

Amistad is noisy because of the train. The building literally shakes.

Hmmm.

Have you personally stayed in a room at HLA?

Just to interject my 2 cents. I have stayed there and so have several people I have met over the past couple of years. The train is a big factor, but it doesn't bother everyone the same. It's not noisy per se, unless they blow the whistle. If you're staying on the west side of the hotel, you can barely hear it at all. The first time I noticed it was in the bar. I thought we were having a mild earthquake. From flying all the time, I'm sensitve to shaking (buckle up). It wakes me up.

I'm also a late sleeper and the horn is loud. I can hear it from the north side mansion rooms at SL, although it doesn't usually wake me up there.

SR

Thanks, that was my point of my post. Factual information like you provided is one thing, but to make a blanket statement like "The building literally shakes" is another.

I've stayed at Amistad several times over the past few years. I'm not a sound sleeper, so you can take what I say with a grain of salt. Based on my personal experiences with the following rooms, I can say:

- In 202 you won't notice the train pass unless they blow the horn, and I do not recall the building "shaking" when I stayed there. Then again, this room is on the west side facing the street going down to Sportsmen's, not the train track street.
- In 212 you may notice the train pass, but it will be a low rumble. No room-shakin' unless you're doing it with your chica.
- In 203 you won't notice a nuclear bomb going off - no windows, enclosed, and on the west side of the hotel. Alas, no outside windows though.
- In the 100 rooms off the to the side, ditto.
- Now, in 312, 313 and 311 you WILL feel the train. It's possible the "building-shaking" poster was referring to these rooms - they are at the highest level of the hotel after all. Ditto for 201 - it faces the east side of the hotel.

Now, I am a SL fan so HLA is usually my second choice. I have also heard the train horn FAINTLY while staying in Mono, which is as far away as you can get from the train inside the Sports.

Mis dos colones,

mh

I stay at LaAmistad about 3 times a year...In my first stay I would wake up cuz of the horn. Well since Matt has Paid for the crossing guards the train don't bother me anymore. Sometimes I feel the shake, but no big deal.
Matt, Staff, the Rooms and price make up for the train.
I'm visiting in during Super Bowl but made my Res to late and no room at the Inn....so game plan "d"..

I am ultra-sensitive to the shaking. It's easier to wake me up by touching me than by shouting. It's most noticable in the bar area, ground floor, near the tracks. Like I said, the first time I thought it was an earthquake. As you move up the floors and away from the east side of the building, it's less noticeable. i assume the shock dissipates the higher you go from ground level.

Every hotel, espcially in San Jose, has its little quirks. This is definitely not a stab at LA, just a "you need to be aware" to anybody considering it for the first time.

SR

I've gotten so that I actually enjoy the whistles and the shaking, I don't know why, maybe just another reminder that I am in Disneyland, "Mr Frog's Ride." By the way, Srlm, I like the way that your new tagline is a subtle reference to DATY.

Instead of name-calling and posting blanket statements without details to back them up, why not try adding factual information about the place like Srilm did?

Or is that simply not your style?

Here is my vote after 150 visits in the past 30 years, dorm roll please.........
Dunn inn for mant reasons.. Location, no train noises, best waitresses and bar staff by far, price, massage therapist is world class, around the corder from little Havana , if you miss Boyd he is nearby, Guy is able to steer you in whatever direction you need, great laundry service, hot water, nice showers, good bedding, very clean, CRT discount, rooms are immaculate, quiet upstairs, great wifi (it works), all in all the best alue in San Jose. I have stayed numerous times at nearly every other hotel. Ths is a great experience despite the CRT member bashing. Check it out and decide for yourselves. I do not own any part of this enterprise. The place should be full but they suck at marketing

The Dunn Inn is certainly the nicest option, but its run by idiots.

Sportsmens and HLH blow them away in terms of management and hospitality.

Well, you are entitled to your opinion. I don't think that jack or guy are idiots, nor is Boyd or bill. You may think so or have some motive for saying so. As far as hospitality, that is simply not true. Different experiences for sure, but Myung was top notch and even better than I have received at SL and HLH.. Could it be that some people are still Dunn bashing on this board when in fact Boyd anded very well and should be thankful for his parting...

Maybe another case of CRT overthinking leads to the arguments. Or I am just very simple. Everytime it comes down to hotels here or at the beach, seems like some are looking for the perfect experience. I basically look for clean, comfortable and with cable when I travel. AC not needed all the time in the city but at times it is. All seems like six of one or half a dozen of the other to me. And people seem to get pissed at places for some reason. Sometimes it would be interesting to hear "the rest of the story" as the great man said. And take positive and negatives with a grain of salt. I've dealt with it for years in various forums. I've seen multiple hotels labeled "shitholes" and know that they are not. Might not be your favorite, but some little something happened during the stay that pissed the person off. Tourism is a funny animal as I have learned over some 25 years. It takes the least infraction to make an enemy for life. Just rambling but the moral of the story is to take every recommendation on the board with a grain of salt. Hotels, restaurants and girls.

Maybe CvCap, reltih_floda(Adolf Hitler) and now Hangman is thinking of the old country and thinking of the way it used to be:

It is not an obsession!

It is outing a jerk!

A guy who adds nothing to the board who changes his handle after he wears out his welcome under his current name.

I know you will once again deny that but all anyone has to do is read the posts by CVCap and then the posts by Hangman and the truth becomes evident.

Easy to change names when you do not pay to become a member on any of them.
