Well it's going to be my first trip to costa rica. Im going with 4 friends and was looking for a 3 bedroom in jaco. Planning on spending 4 days in jaco and 2 in sj. I've read around but didn't find much on what I am looking for. Am I better off renting a house because it would almost be the same as 2 hotel rooms and there wouldn't be a tica fee

I understand the difference between jaco and sj. I just figured it would be better to rent a house between 5 Pol and it would be cheaper too. Less rooms and no tica fees right since the house would be all ours.

The fees are going to run you $10 - $15 per girl - a pain in the ass, sure - but not enough to make it the decision - candidly for the time you are going, I would just get a hotel room(s) - I don't think you are going to save much vs a hotel (Figure each room is going to run you $80 - 130 A house is going to be the same). I'd also take some time to look over some properties while there in person for the next trip.

I'd also - having been to both places many many times (I'll be in Jaco this week as a mater of fact :) ) reverse the trips - if you are going for girls, San Jose wins hands down - Jaco has a certain run down charm, but 4 days - for me at least :) - is too much. YMMV :)

Beetle bar it's a must if in jaco. As for a place to stay condos are nice, especially hotel cocal, but a house will give you more privacy, especially by the pool for more fun if thats what you want. I know people might give me a hard time but josh and bobby at jacovip.com are a great option for your first time to jaco. Yes you pay a little more but knowing you don't have to worry about anythig is worth it in my and seveural friends opinions.

Wow nice advice all around thanks a lot. Is jaco not a good place to go? We are going for ticas too but I want a nice vacation stay too. I just figured reading around online makes sj seems too much of a city for me. I want to wake up to the beach or a nice pool. I figured we could find girls there and bring them back to the house. This is the house I'm looking at. http://www.vrbo.com/275314
I don't know yet I could follow all your advice.

Location: Where Am I ???
Wow. That's a sweet house. It's a 5-bedroom house and it's only $390 per nite with 4 nite minimum? Sorry guys, but in my opinion, this is a hell of an option! That place is definitely a 5-star "stabbin' cabin"! When you split it between 5 guys, it's only $80 each, per nite. Basically, that's the same (or cheaper) than getting 5 hotel rooms. Not a bad deal at all! Let us know how everything goes!

MG

DING DING DING - WINNER! :)

Nisilvia, "TICA" simply means female Costa Rican - its not another term for prostitute - I point this out because:

There are working girls from Colombia, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, etc

You stand a really good chance of pissing off Ticos (male Costa Ricans) by using the term

It marks you as someone who does not know what they are talking about

All the above said, the house looks nice - let us know if you take it and your experiences.

Jaco is fortunate in its location as the closest beach to San Jose; plenty of nicer beaches/areas in CR - if chicas are your main objective, San Jose is a much better place - but Jaco is OK - in fact, I'll be there - fishing - later this week for 2 nights, which for me is enough.

So sorry. I got 2 rooms at sports mans lodge so far. Talking to the owner of the house about everything. I'm going with 4 other guys. Are the modern rooms at sports mans lodge big?

I'm pretty sure I've seen this house. This does seem a very good deal compared to hotels.

concur. copacabana is definitely a no-go. cocal is OK, but not the best.

However, you should definitely visit copacabana and cocal. at various times during the week the pools at those places will have girls.

SR

Yup - just don't stay at either of those! (found a dead mouse - true story  in my bed at the Copa one time when I checked in; twice the air was not working; over priced like many properties in Jaco - you need a/c in Jaco!)

But worth a look to see if anyone is hanging out by the pool :)

Copa has got a great pool area. Haven't been in rooms in ages, but seems biggest complaint there is that the rooms are not worth the money. Not that they are shitty, but just not up to the price charged. Canciones del Mar is very nice. One of my favorite spots in Jaco. Very chill, but think they charge a chica fee. Cocal redid a lot of their rooms a few years back and the ones I've seen are nice. I like the pool area. And guys, Poseidon. I will be going to the beach more now that the season is here. If we were too plan in advance, I have pretty free reign to do and organize some crazy shit at Poseidon. Would need to get a time when we took up 6 rooms or more. Hell, there is a group renting the whole 13 rooms next month and it will be hedonism. I know guys like houses and have been keeping my eyes open for something good. The big houses are generally not good for guys cuz they are basing how many people a house sleeps on couples in beds. Will report any houses I add to the list.
