Just wondering if anyone has done the bus from SJ (Coca Cola) to Jaco...

I have a car booked..but debating going local and taking the bus...cheap and I imagine a "local" experience to be had...but wondering how rough it is...does it stop? (I ain't making it for 3 hours without taking a piss or two!)

thanks

The last time I took the bus down to Jaco, it was much better than the past. They took the new highway and it took a little over 2 hours. Not bad at all. They didn't stop every thirty yards like in the past. It's an easy ride. When I was riding higher in life and didn't care to spend big, I took private transfer. But there ain't no way in hell I'm paying a hundie to go to Jaco. Interesting that the price went UP since new highway. They always chalk it up to tolls, but I think it is maybe $3-4 max.

Bus is pretty well marked at Coca Cola. If you don't see it, just ask, there will be a lot of folks going on each bus. Bus didn't stop the last time I went on the new route. They used to stop in Orotina. There might still be buses that go the old way, not sure.

They have direct buses and buses with stops. Ask for "directo" when buying the ticket.

Another option is Interbus. It's a lot more comfortable than the public bus. I took the public bus once. On the way back from Jaco, it was pretty hot, so everybody opened the windows. I sat in the last row and after it got dark and colder, the draft made us sick for a couple of days. The IB vans are air conditioned. The other thing is that if you put your stuff on the overhead rack, you better keep a sharp eye on it, or keep it on your lap. There's less leg room than in coach on a plane. There are people selling shit on the public bus too who constantly move through the aisle. Be alert.

Interbus costs $45 each way/person. You can book here: http://www.shuttlebus.co.cr/website/sho ... /index.php

All good advice, but I always do the car thing because I move around alot during the day/night in Quepos/M.A. and so it pays off. If you're just going to Jaco which is much smaller, bus it Coca Cola directo or privado interbus shuttle.

If you are going to do the car thing, pick it up the day you are leaving for the beach, the point is a car in SJ is wrought with problems and cabs are cheap.

No worries been to San Jose so will only be picking up the morning of going to Jaco and drop it off as soon as I get back...

can you get from Jaco to Man Ant?

Tip of the day : When you use the overhead rack use the one across the aisle from you and not the one above you so you can watch your goods. Take the bus and use the savings for fun. Uncle H

Easy, 1 hour south, nice flat, paved road to Quepos, and the next 5 miles to Manuel Antonio is up all uphill and curves and then downhill and curves until you get to the the beach. You'll love it.

Does anyone know where to find the bus schedules for Quepos and Puntarenas from Jaco? I wasn't able to get any information at the main stop in Jaco (ticket stand behind Pizza Hut) when there last month, and everyone you ask has a different answer, it seems. Ended up waiting by the road for over an hour... :?

Not sure how reliable this site is, but there are phone numbers for the different bus company's routes listed, and you'll probably need Spanish. If you use their schedules, please post how good or bad it was.

Also, pick up a little publication called Jaco Guide while you are there. They are in the lobbies of most hotels and free at most businesses. They let you know what time all buses pass through Jaco and where you can catch them.

Same in Quepos, forget the name, Quepolandia comes to mind, but schedules are posted everywhere on the walls and windows at the station.
