I have an 8 hour layover between flights coming in MIA. Does anybody have any suggestions on what to do in Miami to kill some time? Thanks.

if your asking about leaving the airport ....dont do it .....really if your layover is 8 you still only have about 6.5 to kill ....airport is big with some cool shops .....getting something to eat can kill about an hour or so if you take it so.....many places to get on the internet ....kill some time reading trip reports from crt isg ....watch a few movies .....it will go by fast and you will make your flight ....if you leave the airport your getting in the jackpot for trouble ...I get lost leaving the place and I been there 6 times ...the titty bars are $$$ and the ones I went to .....at least 50% of the girls had regulars throwing $$$ at them like it was free money .....you can score in them but expect around $200 and up ....it that might just be for a bj ...and your only hours away to disneyland 8)

Go to South Beach and take in the sun, sand and topless chicas. Weather is great right now. And anyway you won't be seeing any beaches where you're going!

Go into the bathroom and sit in a stall and wait for someone to sit in the stall next to you. Put your foot under the divider into the next guy's stall and tap your foot 3 times. That's the international signal for "Hey stranger, wanna help me kill some time?"

There's nothing close by to the airport I would recommend leaving the airport for if you only have 8 hours. Which is really more like 6 hours, if you consider the time you'll spend getting through immigration and security, plus transportation.

Your best bets are to follow the advice already given - stay and explore Concourse D. It's huge and has a ton of full service restaurants with alcohol. Or get a day pass to the Admiral's Club and just hang there.

Having said that, if you still insist the following is a partial list of places you can get to from MIA via a short cab ride (20+ minutes depending on time of day and traffic, about $25 each way):

  • Miracle Mile in Coral Gables: restaurants, bars, shops, people watching.
  • Cocowalk in Coconut Grove: more of the same and movie theaters also.
  • Restaurant Row in Doral: basically lots of restaurants (on 87th Avenue). Also a Hooters and a Walmart if you are so inclined.
  • Strippers: Pink Pony on NW 33rd St, Booby Trap Doral off the 58th Street exit on the Palmetto Expressway, Playmates in Coral Gables, PTs off the Palmetto, and right by the airport are Pink Pussycat and Porky's, two of the biggest rip-off dives you will ever find anywhere on Earth. All of these are clip joints and have an average stripper talent level from zero to 6 but you can at least have a beer(s) and watch ass. By the way, many Miami strip clubs have the peculiar custom of allowing the strippers to ask every customer in the club for a tip after dancing on stage regardless of where you are sitting or if you were paying attention, so be forewarned.
  • Downtown / Brickell: shops, condos, offices, nightlife (after 8 PM).
  • South Beach: not really close by but depending on time of day and traffic you can cab there in 30 minutes. But it's going to cost you at least 50 bucks each way.
  • Malls - Dolphin, International, Merrick, Mall of the Americas.
  • Golf: a couple of courses nearby, the closest being Melreese by the Sheraton Hotel, and you also have Doral not too far away, plus Miami Springs Golf and Country Club.

If you have specific questions drop me a pm.

If you are flying a major airline, ask them to comp you for a day pass to their airport club. Sometimes they will do this.

8 hours should be plenty of time to get out and blow a good 5 hours in town. Assuming you have your boarding pass, don't take thirty years to get through security and keep an eye on time/traffic and such.

Ive done some pretty long airport layovers, fortunately MIA is one of the better ones. But 8 hours is a long time to shoot the shit in a restaurant and pound back a couple drinks. I'd head to South Beach and wander around a bit. But yes you have to factor in taxi costs; and is spending XX amount of money worth entertaining yourself for 8 hours.

The AA lounges in MIA are pretty good. They usually comp you a few drinks, you can grab a bite to eat, and have a shower or something to pass some time. I can think of alot worse places to spend 8 hours

DON'T LEAVE THE AIRPORT!! 8 hrs is not as long as it sounds like. Take the advice already given here, find something to do in the airport!

8 hours seems like forever in an airport. If you have about $ 150 maybe a little less to spend I would go to Joe's Stone Crab for a nice lunch and walk over around South Beach for some exercise then to Mango's for a drink and back to MIA .

you never posted the time of day the layover was ? ....again ....dont leave (if it was a lock to get some pu*sy and get back then maybe its worth the time ,money and chance) or a friend or member was going to meet you and cut out the taxi and chance of getting lost ....then maybe I would chance it ....

Ok, how about this, not the cheapest -- rent a room at the hotel ( with early check in) and then ask for some referrals for ladies from Members in the Mia area to join you for your stay... with 6 hours ( loss one one coming and going for check in at the hotel and security to get back in to the passengers side. Yo cloud says have a couple come and see you.. sure beat suffing the web.

Idie board for one ios where you may find a few. Buddy in FLL tells me he got some good service and good looking ladies ( Latinos) for the 75-100/ hour range

I ended up taking the Airport Flyer bus (Route 150) to South Beach. It was very easy and very cheap. I bought a 1 day easy ticket pass for $5. You can buy the card with a credit card at the machine inside the bus station at the airport. It was a beautiful day and there were lots of beautiful girls at the beach. It took about 35 minutes from the airport to the 9th Street stop. The bus route has recently changed and now the bus goes further south making it easier to get to the beach.

Here is the link to the information in case anybody is interested. http://www.miamidade.gov/transit/library/airport_flyer_brochure.pdf

The route map is not correct on that link so here is a link to the updated route map. http://www.miamidade.gov/transit/library/routes/150.pdf

Okie , Glad you had the balls to venture out and see the city. The one thing Scrim was wrong on is that plane can not leave Miami with a checked bag on it for an international flight that the passenger is not on board. You have to have a positive bag match for all checked bags . The procedure is to dig the bag out of the bin before the plane leaves. It is a huge fine for the airline if the bag flies international and the passenger does not.

I know you are the king of pops but you said in your last post it is illegal or breach of contract to leave an airport and then return to catch a connecting flight ? I have been in the airline business the last 39 years and if that is illegal or a breach of contract send me the law in writing so that I may be up to date . I as a free white male over 21 have the right to do anything I want in between connecting flights at my risk without permission from the airline. ( Or that is what I thought )
What you said in those 6 or so long paragraphs is possible but not probable. I still say that airplane does not leave the ground without the passenger and his bag still on the airplane. The terms we use are " busted bag or bad bag " Now if that happens it is illegal. What I mean is not him the airline has performed an illegal act by letting the bag fly . They not him are subject to fines .
A guy has more than a right to go out ( leave the sterile area ) stretch his legs and return to any airport I know of. Hey and if he screws up and acts nice about it we will get him on the next flight possible with no questions asked . Keep in mind "possible" means could be a while.
We have more trouble with passengers sitting around the airport falling to sleep and missing than we do with those who leave and do not return on time. Just another day at the airport . Send me that breach of contract info ASAP. Have a great day lets have a beer and discuss this in person , Uncle H.

Srilim - I agree with Herman as I too have been in the airline business for over 25 years. If a bag travels without the associated pax, it's the airline, not the pax that can get in trouble.
