The Corobici Crown Plaza is an excellent hotel that I have experience many times. I took my Novia to the hotel for my birhtday. I checked in they did not ask for her ID or even question her being in room. Just like checking into a hotel in the states. There is a very good Japanese restaurant where you can reservce a private room. Little low table and a space underneath for your legs. Great atmosphere

I stayed at the Corobici a few years ago when Priority Club had some special on points so it was quite the bargain. I think right now it's $140+/night or 30K points. It is a Crowne Plaza but I would rate it 3.5-4 stars. In Sabana which is really not such a long cab ride to downtown, and it's a shorter ride to the airport. It's walking distance to the Sabana Park (be carefull and go only in daytime which is packed with locals on the weekend). A unique hotel with an interior atrium concept. It has the Japanese restaurant and small casino at the one end, open lounge in the middle. Excellent breakfast that you can have indoors or outdoors by the pool area. The pool is a small square thing, but you and you can tan poolside. You have access to a large fitness center. Actually there were some nice local ticas in the fitness center since it's mostly locals with memberships. It's quite a relaxing place and certainly nothing like the DR or even the Presidente for that matter. Mostly business people and some families from South America. I met a couple from Florida on their honeymoon so you get the idea. They don't get a lot of our kind staying at the place so that's probably why they're not so much on lookout like at the Aurola. If you bring a tica that looks like she's your GF, I doubt if you will have problems.

Take a look at the Cariari Hotel. It is 5 star (Heads of States have stayed there)..it's not terribly far from the gulch and as long as your date doesn't dress or look like a hooker you should be fine getting her in. I have.

When I first went there (several years ago) it was The Melia Cariari. I believe now it is the Doubletree Cariari.

Excellent suggestion. Thank you. I'm booking this.

This is really a Hilton so it should be good. In the neighborhood is the Marriott Firestone which is a stunning place too. Maybe nicer, though I've never stayed at either. So check it out. Usually Marriott's don't care what you are up to.
I was thinking more about your posting and I would really recommend you stay 2-3 days at the BlueMarlin/DelRey first. Stay in one of suites and you'll be comfortable and you are an elevator ride to ground zero. Look for a semi-pro tica and when you find her move to any upscale hotel. The Colombiana's are more interested in one hour (or less) and getting back to the bar and are always pro's. If you are patient you can probably find a part-time tica that will give you more of what you are looking for.

5 star I'm not sure. However I like to stay a little more upscale too.

One possibility is Los Suenos but it's a trip to the coast. I stayed there for a few days with a nica and it was a pretty good time. They're usually game for Los Suenos, "muy romantico" or so I'm told.

Hey thanks. Exactly how far is the trip both time and distance from Los Suenos to the Gulch?

I just drove to OSA Peninsula and left San Jose using the new toll road which was an absolute breeze. I think I was driving past Jaco in an hour and a half and Los Suenos is just slightly before Jaco.

Bond Trader- That's great for a private stay but I can't make that journey round trip every night. I have to unfortunately cross Marriott Los Suenos off the list while I'm playing in the gulch nightly. However, If I stay there for a few nights what is your opinion about surrounding clubs to pull from w/o going all the way in to San Jose?

Is that unrealistic or doable? I have game but don't want to waste time playing games.

If you're looking for action near Los Suenos then the only game in town essentially is The Beatle Bar in Jaco. There is boatloads of information on Beatle Bar on the forum. Personally I tried that game a few times in my earlier trips then sort of got sick and tired of it (Beatle Bar that is). But there is no shortage of action there. Cannot comment, however, on the ease or difficulty of bringing Beatle Bar girls to Ls Suenos since I'm too poor to afford to stay there...:)

Alas out of my price range also. There have been numerous posts that girls are not allowed in the hotel. However there also has been speculation that it might be possible if you are renting a villa.

Still drives me crazy that a third world country can control who someone chooses to bring in and out of a very expensive hotel room that he has paid for.

Honestly and I am not joking, this is not listed anywhere in Marriott's policies. I am a Gold Member. If they were to deny entrance of a GF into my room (not just a villa) I would call AMEX after my trip and refuse to pay the bill.

They could certainly require you to register her to your room within their policies. Which would mean you could get one chica in, but that would be all. I ran into this issue at a Westin in Puerto Vallarta - no problem at all to bring the first chica in, but she had to get put on my room registry, and they could prevent others, because of limits of occupancy for the room (note, they let me register a 2nd chica, but drew the line at 2 - so I could only repeat with the first 2 chicas for the remainder of that stay).

Yes, your point is well taken D1 and I am only venting. However, technically there is nothing I have ever read in the policy which prohibits the guest from re-registering every day with a different second occupant. They just arbitrarily drew the line at two with you at the Westin IMO.

I highly doubt it would be an issue in a large hotel. I don't see how they can memorize the faces of the guests and I think it would be arduous to keep track. I would be disappointed if they would even require the girl's ID at a place like Los Suenos. How insulting is that? But I could be wrong. Maybe a country has combative hooker policies but CR just seems to be more stringent than I have seen around the world when prostitution is clearly condoned.

Here is an older post on the Intercontinental:

And as a side note, the Intercontinentals in Medellin, Santiago, and San Salvador are on the PointBreaks list until Jan 31.

If you want to get out of the gulch and enjoy a 5 star place, I suggest casa cristal www.casacristalcr.com/Home.aspx It is located in Bello Horizante area of Escazu which is high above San Jose city and secluded. Incredible views of the city, great hosts (from Cuba), and outstanding rooms and service. They get a lot of medical and eco freaks for customers. I've never had a problem bringing a chica there. Once you check-in, you likely won't see the owners again unless you are in the bar/ restaurant.

For me, this place only makes sense if you have a chica for extended time or all night. Too far away from the gulch to do 2 hour sessions.

I can't say enough good things about this place. The only weakness is the dinner. Only fair. But you have many 5* choices close by in Escazu/Santa Ana.

pretty harsh and offensive term. so you know; costa rica is a developing country. third world countries rest primarily on the continent of africa.

however, and to the point; the feature of guest registration is not [primarily] designed to harass its customers but used as an added measure of security. its there to protect YOU - the OTHER guests, and as is in these instances the girl.

I really appreciate this info. I checked this out and it looks excellent. I am a bit concerned that it is so small it will be difficult to get lost in the crowd. That's why I prefer a major 5 star place like the IC with 330 rooms. Thank you though. This looks nice.
