I'm sure you did; I knew what you meant :)

Just remember that there is also another rip off Currency Exchange located upstairs - when you enter the ticketing area (upstairs), its on the left - opposite from where the bank and exit visa place is located.

Yup.

In a great spot to catch you as you head from the check-in to the screening area (in case you didn't notice the BAC in the corner after your paid your exit tax).

right now, Sportsmens is giving 490, and the banks are giving between 497 and 502. Basically, Sportsmens is taking an extra 2 percent, no biggie, IMHO.

There is a Bank of CR branch in the 2nd floor INS building 2 blocks from Sportsmens that I got 502.5 on Friday Also, dollars are widely accepted at 500 to 1 if you have good condition small bills - cabbies will take them, as will chicas. If I were you, I´d make sure I had 100 us in tens and twenties, and I´d change 100 at Sportsmens when you get in, then cash more money at the Bank of CR on Monday morning.

Vaguely related to money-changing....

From what I've read on here, one should bring the bulk of one's cash in $20s, because it's difficult to change bigger bills, they're subject to more scrutiny, and not everyplace will change them. But based on what I read in another post, for a week's stay, by the time you figure in chicas, drinks, meals, taxis, the cost of any non-Gulch activities or attractions you want to see, and other random incidental spending, you're probably over $1k, and pushing $1500. Doing the math on this(1), if that's all in $20s, that's between 50 and 75 bills. I don't think you can fit 50 $20s in a money belt, and it'd make quite a wad in your pants(2) if you were to just rubber-band it together or something.

So what do I do? Just bring mostly Benjamins, and hope to get 'em changed/broken at the SL? Pull cash out of ATMs? (My bank has a rather lengthy list of countries where they won't allow their ATM cards to work, full stop, regardless of advance notice of travel. I should check whether CR is on that list. Canada is, as are a number of countries in Western Europe including the U.K.)

Sorry for the persistent questions. I'm the kind of person who's not comfortable unless he's got all this stuff answered and figured out in advance.

Thanks.

(1)I was told there would be no math.
(2)so to speak.

Generally speaking, Banks and Hotels and Casinos will break and change 100s, after carefully scrutinizing them. Most other places will not. 50s are similar. Try to get new crisp bills from serial numbers after the letter C, dated in the 2000s, not the 1990s to avoid having your bills rejected.

I arrived with 11 Benjamins 10 Andrew Jacksons, and $120 in smaller bills. That´s $1420 for the under-mathed.
