Thinking about spending a few days in Cartago, away from downtown san jose, on my next visit. Anyone know if there are any chica bars in Cartago?
I'm curious, too, if there are any such bars out in Alajuela or Heredia.

I would bet there are, but why bother - none of the places you mentioned is a real garden spot, known for much. Would hold zero attraction for me, but.....

If you want to get out of SJ, I'd suggest San Antonio de Escazu - think Escazu, but a little higher elevation. Out of the way, but still somewhat (30 - 45 min's ) close to ground zero.

You could stay at Pico Blanco (about $55/night), or for more high end accomodations, The Bachelor Mansion/White House/Tara - or whatever its going by these days - its a beautiful place. Google it and I'm sure something will come up. (its where the Capitol Grill is/was located).

If for some reason its closed, I'm sure someone will chime in, and you have Pico Blanco as an option - the place is not fancy; I've stayed there a bunch of times; in fact it was our groups hq when we first started coming to CR 15 years ago - but the location makes it somewhat geographically undesirable - real good views of the central valley, great climate, clear air :)

Thanks, but I don't want to stay in escazu. My question was about possible pickup bars in cartago.

Cartago is far more traditional, almost isolated by comparison. There is nothing that I know of like that in Cartago. There are MPs but they are hard to find and cater only to locals.

Re: Cartago...send a PM to Dapanz1. He might know of a couple of places there.

Their is absolutely no place in Cartago worth the visit. The one place I do know is filled with 3's and 4's. It's a complete dive and not real gringo friendly. It's the only place I have ever been in CR in which I thought I might have a little trouble with the locals. AND I WAS WITH MY NOVIA.

However, do visit the Los Angeles Basillica when in Cartago. It will likely be cool and will rain in the afternoon. So, dress appropriately.

Yes, it's called Bar Royale. A complete f'n dump. It does have on-site. It's nothing more than a mattress on the dirtly floor. You can compete with the rat sized cockroaches for who gets to sleep on the dry spot. As mentioned, it's full of 2's and 3's. I used to be friends with the manager but he left for Guanacaste. I do not recommend the place for any reason. Lots of gorda Ticas and Dominicanas there.
