That may be, but I think many of us - certainly me - knew exactly what you meant by your post - you were pissed the gringo seems to get the blame, whereby in many cases its a Tico (often "friend of the family") who is the actual culprit - and while I don't have exact stat's, I think it happens far too often.

Oh - another point - get out of the Sportmans, and see more of the country (If NH Hank's description of you is accurate) - far too many never leave their hotels, and they are really missing out on seeing - and knowing - a great country.

There were a series of bad mongers that got caught, thank God, and caused alot of bad press, but, to me, the PR response was overboard anti-gringo like that life sized guy on the poster warning gringo's on the last door out of the airport, and the highway billboards. It seems like CR was saying gringo's were the only ones. Christ, you'd think we were a bunch of Catholic priests!

Well, yes and no. As this article states, that 18 y/o thing is an international treaty and applies (when it does) to females marrying without parental and/or judicial consent. With that consent, the age in the U. S. is as young as 14, though 16 is more common. AND it wasn't that long ago that females could unrestrictedly marry as young as 14 in the more agrarian states:

Ok, simple topic that will probably go on forever for all the voices to be heard. Check ID's and only do legal. And beyond that be appropriate. And be careful. Wow! With unanimous opinion from the tipico poster on this board, pedo's are bad bad bad, whether tico's or gringo's. Pedophelia is a world wide sexual/mental disorder that unfortunatley for all, cannot be cured. That's why you see big time prison sentences for convicted pedo creeps, in the states anyway, the courts have heard this convincingly over and over from a million shrinks. It's a mental disorder that the predator cannot modify, either chemically or psychologically or physically. That's why there are reporting requirments for their residencies when they are let out in I think every state. If I am not mistaken, and if there are any shrinks on this board please correct me, it is a Level 1 disorder on the latest APA's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, equal to a psychosis, like paranoia-schizo, etc.
