Mexico to cull 50,000 wild boars from US invasion
AFPAFP – 7 hrs ago

Mexican officials have unveiled plans to slaughter some 50,000 wild boars that have crossed the border from the United States and now threaten agriculture in Mexico.

The Ministry of Environment in Chihauha state said some 1,500 hectares (3,700 acres) of farmland in the border town of Ojinaga have been affected by the large number of feral pigs that have come from Presidio County, Texas.

"We must get rid of these European wild boars because they sleep overnight on US soil during the day and cross over to the Mexican side to feed," Ignacio Legarreta, a state official, told local media.

The boars of European origin, which were imported to Texas as pets and then replicated in the wild, have caused serious damage to the flora and fauna of the area, officials said.

"They have reproduced to reach more than 50,000 animals that threaten the area," said Legarreta.

The authorities intend to use cages with food inside to trap the animals.

What, these folks couldn't figure out a way to monetize the situation with, say, wild boar hunts? In any case I hope whoever kills them uses the meat for food--O/W, a lot of animal protein going to waste.

Ok jokes are welcome, but wild pigs are big problem all over the US. Here in WI we have a few with standing orders from the DNR if you see one day or night, legal shooting or not put a bullet in it NOW !!!

guy I worked with had a friend got one, weight in 500-700 lbs plus Lbs and they had to use a tow truck to load it in the truck, but it smelled so bad that no butcher would touch it , so they ended up dumping it in a land fill- even the bears wanted nothing to do with it..

So at least the Mexicans seem to be serious about this and going to kill them all. I love the wild life shows where the ranch in being over run with hogs, so they hire some bozo, who's crew spends all night to catch one pig alive and think they did a good job . No kill them all and let Oscar Meyer sort them..

Same with the snakes in FL, they are not supposed to be here and are doing a lot of damage, so I got a once of cure for that problem also.

and boars are mean treacherous things. if one wants to dance with you it would be best if you brought a gun. i don't hunt but have heard many stories of being blindsided by boars and have seen the scars.

Thanks to Eric Holder the Mexicans definitely have enough guns to kill the boars. :P

In Texas and Oklahoma these beasts are weighing in at 1100 pounds in some cases. True monsters and mean as hell.

There are 3 species that will attack humans unprovoked--wild boars, South African Cape buffaloes and, of course, other humans.
