Some folks have posted they've had difficulty getting in touch with Pops recently.

I regret to inform you Pops was involved in a traffic accident in SJO a couple of days ago. He was injured pretty seriously and is in the hospital.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery, Pops!

Pops essentially told me on my first day in San Jose that the national sport here is to try to run over pedestrians-- he was so right. He is a good guy, I hope he recovers soon.

Talked to Pops this morning. He is hoping they will operate tomorrow.
Says that he is just glad that he didn't get killed. Typical Pops always looking for the good side in things.

Update - the operation is now scheduled for later today. Doctor told Pops if all goes well he'd be back on his feet (with crutches) within the week. So if you see a bald gringo hobbling around the Gulch on crutches within the next month or so, it's probably Pops himself.

On a more serious note - the bureaucratic hospital bullcrap Pops has had to deal with during this ordeal is, for lack of a better word, chilling. Thank God he's now in a private clinic instead of that piece of poop Calderon Guardia.

I guess the lesson to be learned here is - if you live down there, make sure you have private health insurance.

And on another note. Be careful walking guys. I see potential for myself to get hit everyday. Hope the surgery turns out well.

Without question the worst thing about CR is the drivers. Its like the Three Stooges get their first car Episode! They must take a hit of mandatory crack before they are allowed to turn the key. 8)
