That is a great Post Thank You!

I have to agree I belong to several cigar boards and have become close real life friends over the internet, I then started visiting and herfing with them in person some of in my opinion best people in the world are cigar smokers. I actually think more than normal by comparison I see the giving and caring as a brotherhood, BOTL is a real and great worldwide club.

I have met some pretty great people mongering as well just not as many.

If I can get retired and healthy enough you will certainly see me there smoking with you. I will bring mostly my own but will buy one or two as you can't operate for free.

Thanks you can not talk to much about cigars as far as I am concerned. Scuba hope when I do make it you are there bro!

Dave

Hey Dave :) - Hope your back is feeling better, and all is well with you - sounds like you still have some "issues" to deal with and I wish you all the best - I'll be in CR late Jan - quick trip; fishing (really    ) w/ the guys followed by 3 days in SJ - I think its Jan 19 we arrive :) One of these days, sooner vs later we gotta smoke together!

Re all the back and forth about brands, et al - Bruce at HLH has done an outstanding job as to selection, pricing, etc, so kudos to him.

I smoke the cigar, vs the band, and regardless of cost, if you like the cigar, smoke it - its not a 100% correlation between quality and pricing - I too was under the impression that Cuba did not export leaf tobacco, just finished product, but have been assured by someone I trust (Bruce  ) that a certain brand he sells that I think is excellent has Cuban leaf (leaf from Cuba, not "Cuban Seed", and is well priced, but is rolled in CR - who knows, who cares, its a great cigar.

While I have smoked some great Cubans, and I don't agree w/ him on everything, I do agree w/ Hangman on this:

The Cuban cigar industry survives on the mystique of the forbidden, not the overwhelming quality of product.

Oh yeah - I have met him and can attest to the fact Jazzbo exists - he is a smart, nice guy, well read and very up on current events and politics - I liked him a lot - except when he corrects me when I blast someone I consider to be clueless  :P  :)

Scuba1: How was the Cohiba Behike 56. Please post a review. Also, everyone, no need for cigar contention. I carry cigars from $2 to $69. Obviously everyone has their own taste and preference. Otherwise, I would carry only 1 cigar.
What's the best cigar? Even I am conflicted. I have a lot of very good Cubans, but also have Padron 1926's made in Nicaragua.

Bruce, I'm probably the wrong guy to review that particular cigar; while it is well made, w/ a beautiful wrapper, and lasts a long time, I actually enjoyed the other Cohibas I smoked more :) Plus, I can't get past the price point. Probably a good thing I enjoy others more, b/c if I loved the Behike, I could not afford it

OTOH, if you are a Cuban fan, the selection at HLH is excellent, and the cigars are fairly priced - not easy to find a good smoke shop in Costa Rica, but Bruce is doing a great job :)

Now the 1926.......mmmmmmmmm :) :P :)

I'll be down the latter part of Jan, so look forward to seeing you then - let me know if you need anything; I get to CR the 19th and to SJ the 21st :)

Stayed at HLH in January and spent a little time at the cigar bar talking to Bruce and some of his many guests. Great atmosphere and great cigars! And ask for the Oreo and espresso treat while you're there, very tasty while smoking. A cool place to hang out and relax in between other activities. Thumbs up Bruce!

If I may suggest and recommend, a short taxi ride from Barrio Amon and SJ Centro to the American Embassy area, to pick up some true Cubans and have a chat with some very knowledgeable staff. http://www.cruzcanelahabanos.com/productos_habanos.php

I personally can guarantee that Bruce's Cubans are real and stored correctly. He is also very knowledgeable.

If your point is that there is the place you mention and its a "Casa de Habanos" and their stuff is "real" (if stupid expensive) I'd agree with you.

If your point is that HLH's is not or lacking, I don't - plus the pricing is so much better @ HLH; don't get your point why the need for a taxi ride. I love going to cigar places; but in this instance the inference as to "True Cubans" and a chat w/ some "some very knowledgeable staff" is a shot that is unwarranted at Bruce and HLH.

Maybe its the way you wrote your post; it just looked like a shot - kinda like the place you mentioned is the real deal and HLH is not. (And if that was your point, you could not be more incorrect).

Skippy, if you want to smoke authentic Cuban cigars at reasonable rates, large selection, and enjoy great fellowship jump into a taxi and head to Barrio Amon and visit a real cigar lounge at HLH. More info can be found at Havanahumidorroom.com

I must admit that it is difficult to look at Wiseash for a long time, while smoking a delicious Partagas Luistania. But his mug will grow on you  How can you not like a man that doesn't inflate his cuban cigar prices so as to gouge his customers.

This place was full of real Cubans sure? but the K*ds there acted as if we couldn't leave fast enough and the same way towards us spending money. It was also dead we were the only people there and as someone mentioned the prices were so high it was insulting. Plus could they have found a worst possible location Jeez

It is the last place I recommend visiting at least Don Benigno I do recommend was very gracious to the point we bought a box or so each to age and I/we didn't even like them. I still have half a box and they are still no better 4/5 years later LOL But he and his staff though small were very nice welcoming people who sat and drank and espresso with us over a cigar.

Naw I can't wait to see HLH's new lounge and what it's like now, words of praise from people I trust and it sounds like a great hangout.

I have to agree with srilm. Arturo fuente offers some fine cigars, like the short story or the don carlos #3.
