On a recon mission with my esteemed partner in crime Dr. Mario Mendez, Dr. BKTuna informed us of a stellar new dining option in the gulch about 1/2 block from HLH. Speakeasy (part of the Secret Mansion) is a non-descript little hole in the wall. OK drinks (a little high in price for you cheap bastards out there), but their gem is a freaking fantastic Meatball sub served with potato wedges.

I mean...it really is THAT GOOD. It was so good that we went back on the way home to pick some up to-go (on the same night no less). But, dont expect fast food... it took a while to get (and it is 4,000 colones as well...but worth every colone). So, for you fat bastards that want a good sub, a nice down low environment, and aren't a cheapo...enjoy!!!

I second that .......... I was so impressed by the quality I was not even upset about how long we had to wait, but it was absolutely worth the wait. So if you have not been able to find a good meatball sub in CR, well, here it is........ Give it a shot......

They don't mind special orders. A few weeks ago I ordered the burger and requested it to be topped with the sauce and cheese like the meatball sub. It was so good that John (bartender) had one after me and it seems to have cought-on, they call it "The Access Burger" but not on the menu.

Highest personal recommendation, does take a while it is a bar wiht food not a restaurant. Very cool place to get away from the usual crowd. Open m-f 5pm-2am, Sat 12noon to 2am and closed Sunday. Av 9 3/4 block west of HLH gurad at door.

Breaking news! Speakeasy is going to reopen in about 2 weeks. The same menu with additional entrees added. The location will move to the main floor of the building and the entrance will be at the Secret Mansion main entrance. It is located 1 block west of the The Havana Humidor Room at the HLH.

Post of the Week!! I was disappointed that right around the time I moved into the neighborhood, this great sounding sub was no longer an option. Look forward to trying one soon.
