This promotion is billed as "Travel the world for 20% fewer miles", there are many locations available including San Jose from Houston and Newark. You have one week to book (must be ticketed by 9/19) for travel between 10/10 thru 12/15 (details below):

No codes are necessary, just book the reward travel the usual way, you'll see that it takes less miles. The promotion is listed on the United site here:
