I plan on staying in colombia for six months and want my mail forwarded to me on a monthly basis at a reasonable price, since it will be during tax time i cannot trust my brother, there is just too much info to have something accidentally be lost.. so anyone use one and if so what cost are there?? thanks for your help, i would rather use a company that someone recommends...

I used one in Costa Rica and one day I went to get my mail and the Mail Boxes Etc in Rohmoser/Pavas was closed down but of course still charging my card.

I had a credit card and some other things lost. Now I have people bring stuff or I wait til I go. Good Luck.

Being retired, and not having to work for a living, I don't need to worry about mail the way a guy still working does, nevertheless, the task of getting mail is still a daunting one. Mail and shipping household goods to Colombia are a PITA.. There is no easy one-step solution to forwarding mail.In my case, Any US mail will be going to my brother and dad who will hold it for me. I am trusting them to toss any "junk mail".. Any important stuff (pension, social security, IRS, banks, etc) will be set aside and held until the next shipment to my Colombian post office box. If it's something that requires timely action, the document will be scanned and e-mailed to me. I don't anticipate too many "important" letters, so I should be fine. I've checked with several firms specializing in international shipping and mail, but I found them to be too limited and expensive for my particular needs.

I just shipped four boxes by boat and one box of household goods by air to Colombia this week using a service in Elizabeth, NJ, called "Box Express." I had to deliver the 5 boxes (with a total weight of 650 lbs) to their depot, but they will deliver the goods to my doorstep in greater Medellin. The cost for this service is $1,000. I checked out a few other companies, and found one, Sea-Air International, that did door-to-door (pick-up and delivery at doorsteps). The cost for this service is $3,100 for the same five boxes.

How to get with Box Express that Brother BlueDevil mentioned: http://boxexpressservices.com/box/
Aerocasillas has been mentioned most favorably here, most notably by Brothers Irish Drifter and Orange, and of course, Greengo.

Just be advised that Aeropost cannot ship anything to you unless it has a receipt showing the value of the item. So that rules out shipping anything I already own via them, since I don't have receipts for 99% of my stuff.

But they are good for anything you buy on the internet; you can have it sent to their Miami address, and then pick it up at one of their locations in Costa Rica, or they can deliver it to you.

Colombia is unusual in the fact that it does not have a nationalized postal service and does not follow Universal Postal System treaties. Everything that enters or leaves or is delivered in the country is considered to be through courier. Colombians do not receive "mail" as is common in most countries.

You may want to to consider a postal box at Red Postal and have things forwarded from any US mail boxes etc. to that box. http://www.4-72.com.co/

I do not know what part of the country you will be based in, as it was not specified, but this company is located throughout the country.
