Don Javier is actually a nice guy, I have no problem with him. He claims he sent me an email with regards to this but who knows.

To Be honest DONDE CARLOS IS actually much better, same price point and about 5 minutes from everywhere..... Not to mention the husband and wife who run the place are super nice people. Instead of making a big deal, I'd simply patronize another establishment such as DC.

For more on the Parrillada Donde Carlos, see this: http://www.dondecarlos.com/
I like the design of the building and the Website--has a sort of '50's LA feel to it.

Donde Carlos is pretty awesome. The food quality and pricing are consistent with LEDBA. I like the ambiance of LEDBA and its proximity to the Gulch, but the great food, contemporary decor, and upscale feel make Donde Carlos a fine alternative to LEDBA. My steak at Donde Carlos was one of the best I have had in CR, and the chorizo appetizer was as good as any I have had in the States. Service was top notch, too.

Last night, I went there with 2 other people. The food and service was top notch, as usual. I have only had 2 bad steaks in about 25 visits. We all the same entree (Lomito Porcini-tenderloin in creamy mushroom sauce).

In another thread, somebody wrote that you can get 3 steak dinners and a bottle of wine for $100.

Not so much anymore, especially if you get wine other than house wine.

First, the prices have gone up considerably since I was last there in February. I first noticed with the appetizers that I usually get. They were between 4500-5000 the last time (February). Now, the Salmon is about 5800 and the garlic shrimp 6200. That's a huge increase in 6 months. The steaks went up about 1500, from about 9400 to 10900. I've been trying to go there every trip. It has always been about $60-65 for 2 people. The bill last night was ¢57,000 ($114) for 3, that $38/person. We had 3 appetizers, 3 steaks, and a small bottle of house wine (which is pretty good btw).

Second, according to the waiter, as of about a month ago, they are no longer honoring the 10% CRT discount. I will verify this with Admin to see if they really cut ties or they are full of shit. That could've saved us $15 (with the savings in taxes 23%).

Yes, I was the one that made the original statement that we had three dinners and a bottle of wine that was not the house wine for a little over $100 bucks, but that was before they discontinued the CRT discount. Maximus62 will back me on that. That is probably why they discontinued the discount. I would probably go back, but not the next trip. I intend to check out the other Steakhouse by sabana Grande and no I do not mean Fogo de Cattle Ranch Tough as Leather. 8)

About 1-1/2 years ago, there was a Thread on good beef places. Two other venues were spotlighted (one is a churrascaria) though each is a bit of a drive: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=25254&p=371964

We try to eat there on every trip. I have found the food and service as good as anywhere.

If you are looking for what I consider the most consistant steakhouse,I have always recommended Novillo Alegre in Escazu and Santa Ana.

Novillo Alegre is OK, but way overpriced unless you use your BCR card and get 40% off like the Ticos that pack the joint. Esquina makes a much better steak, as does Doris or Jurgens (most of the time, as it can be inconsistent).

Interesting how Hangman's writing style and subjects mirror those of CVCap so closely. Then given that he surfaced shortly after CV disappeared is most likely just coincidence.

Or then again perhaps not.

3 of us ate at La Esquina Wed. night. for a wingman b-day celebration. Walked in at 8:30pm & the place was packed. Had to wait at bar for table since we had no reservation. Enjoyed a nice Malbec & a Lomito in pepper sauce & a flaming crepe dessert. Muy deliciosa!!! Will definitely return.
