I was standing outside the hotel talking to the security dude when I noticed smoke coming from the roof 2 doors down. He didn't believe me at 1st , but when I insisted it was a real emergency , he stepped out beside me, took one look and immediately started yelling for people to get away from the building. Within 5 minutes, the police, fire dept & tv cameras were on the scene. The blaze covered the top of about 4 businesses from the casino to the corner. It was so hot that I was sweating while taking pictures from across the street. The police taped off the whole block for what seemed like about 3 hours. It was cool seeing myself on the news that night when I got to Jaco! It's possible that I was the 1st person to notice the smoke... I didn't notice anyone else checking it out. The local shops should take up a collection & cover my mongering expenses on my next trip down. Don't ya think? Seriously, The fire was caused by a busted gas line and did a helluva alot of damage. Did anyone else here happen to see it? I will post the pics I took in a few days after I get them developed.

Sounds like you saved the day. I would definately like to see the pics. Thank god it was'nt the Del Rey. I'd bring down every inch of fire hose on my engine company to extinguish that blaze.
