Speaking of gallo pinto...it's one of my favorite SJO breakfast items. Unfortunately, I find the SL gp to be lacking. Any recommendations on better tico breakfast options in the vicinity of SL?

Breafast up the way at LaAmistad, Bigdan. Full breakfast menu in addition to most excellent gp. Eggs (of all types...as in omelettes, fried, scrambled, etc.), bacon, ham, spuds, hot cakes, waffles, fruit, toasts, juices, blah, blah, blah. Under 3600c

further up the way from LaAmistad and towards the farmacia and the hospital are several Sodas with very good morning food. Check 'em out....

I must say,...the free breakfast at Castillo, will make a turd,...but there are other options. I have eaten it many times, but think it would go a long way stepping it up a bit. C'mon Darren, buy a new coffee maker, and a new toaster.

Is this a buffet or menu?

This is a menu, no buffet at La Amistad. I find the free breakfast (included with the room) to be adequate but some guys like to supplement it with something off of the regular menu. The waiter and cook really work fast in non-tico fashion to get the food out quickly which is good if you have business or other early nefarious activities to go to.

The Palms offered a full American breakfast for only $4 the last time I stayed at the Castillo. Quite good for the price. I agree about the toaster and coffee maker they use for the free buffet breakfast needs to be updated.
