Guys, wanted to let you know about a young guy that drives a small blue taxi and waits outside the Sportsmen's. My wingmen and I have used him from time to time, as we did this past week. He did fine for us.

Then, on Saturday, my favorita wanted to take a taxi from the Sportsmen's back to her apartment to get more clothes for her stay with me.

The little blue taxi was right out front, so I tucked her in the back seat for the 5-minute ride to her apartment, then went back inside to have a beer and wait for her return.

When she returned about a half hour later, she reported that the driver had refused to take her all the way to her apartment. He dropped her off a block away and made her walk.

And, he charged her $6 for the priviledge.

We reported this to Bill, so he is aware, and I wanted to let other guys know.

I hope I never see that guy again. And I hope no one else uses his so-called "services."

You need to be more specific about the driver. There are two guys who drive blue cars and sometimes one other guy drives a blue car. I am suprised that you would have such good service from one of the guys out front and then he treat your girl that way. Any more info you can get us on that guy would be appreciated. Those of us who are here often can help with situations like that because we are their bread and butter so to speak. So let me know whatever you can remember.

There's at least 1 young bad apple out there. I don't remember much but he was really agitated that I wouldn't give him more than 1 mil to the hotel around the corner.

I don't care to deal with those guys. I leave out the front door , go right down the sidewalk to the corner and wave down a taxi.

One dollar to all local hotels or the meter to my home.

I agree with Dr M

more info is needed to weed out this guy

I like the pairates at the SL they are right there when you want them .. most of the time?

I know most of them... with that said always agree on a price before the trip

when traffic is bad  and it is rainhing hard.... It is nice not watching the meter run

They will also try and screw you if you let them

So in closing walk to the corner or up by the Amistad, use a guy out front,or make a call to a taxi sevice for a pick up

Now :D Here is an idea for our favorite places to visit

A shuttle van... leaves the SL every half hour....

Stops at Castillo,HLH,Central market, 6th st,relax and Del Ray

5 bucks ride all day :D

Trust me when I say there are other guys who drive guys around from the SL that are true scumbags. This is why we need to know about them so we can help weed them out. I can think of one that I would love to knock out, but that would not help us deal with the fool. The only way to get to these guys is through their wallets.

Dr. Mario,

Sorry I can't remember a lot more about this guy. I realize my description was too general and he could be confused with someone else.

He had a round face, was about 5' 7", did not smile at all (this describes most Ticos, I know). His car had faded and scratched blue paint. It was the size of a Corolla, but may have been a Mazda -- I don't recall exactly. The blue color is not light and it is not Navy blue either.

I do remember he was insistent that we ride with him, he kept waving us over and assuring us verbally that we should get in. Seems like he stands outside his car, leaning back against the door post on the passenger's side, watching for people exiting the SL.

I wanted to go right back out there and look for him, but my favorita was afraid of retribution against her in my absence, so I refrained. Better to keep a wonderful girl safe and try to attack the guy financially thru our network.

From now on, I'm sticking with the red cabs at the corner, or someone the staff at SL call for me.

Hope this helps more.

LA

Far as I'm concerned, EVERY taxista in CR is a POS unless proven otherwise. Even then, he is probably just good at disguising his piece o shittiness.

I report on this same subject last spring. What I found out was that you should ask the front desk for a Hotel approve taxi and there will never be a problem. Not the gate keeper and never just walk out on the street.
Since last spring I have been requesting a hotel approved taxi at the SL front desk and have had zero problems.

Not to say they would steer you wrong, but one of the guys that is called a lot of the times is one of the bigger scumbags when it comes to taxi drivers. I personally go out of my way to tell people what a POS he is. I will not post on here his name because that is not how I roll, but this guy is the top of the line scumbag.......

I don't take taxis in front of hotels and SL is no exception. I always walk a bit and then catch a regular one... I must be lucky, I do well with taxistas here in the city. I look to see the maria is on and then sit back and enjoy the ride..
