Gotta give some props to same great tasting ribs. Being a Texan, I damn sure know what good barbecue and good ribs are, and these ribs are among the best I have ever eaten. Meat just fell off the bones. My amigo had some pollo and cound not finish all the pollo he was brought, and I decided to help him out. :D The pollo was also top notch.

Great place for some good ole homestyle ribs and chicken.

I will second what Dear John said.

And they play country and western music.

I didn’t know they played both kinds of music.

Always good to know where to get some good ribs. We just had a place open in Playa Hermosa, the one over from Jaco, which has exceptional ribs. Really good sauce. Where is the zoo in San Jose?

I think the zoo is in Barrio Amon.

The zoo is in Barrio Amon directly off the street behind the Sportsmen's Lodge. Easy to get to. Go into the Sportmens if you are not sure, then walk down the stairs in the bar area, out into the street about a half block on the right. 3P

Thanks, I didn't know about that way down. I walked around. If you are feeling lazy, you can just call the Hamburger Factory, and they deliver ribs that aren't bad.

I dined twice this last trip at JR’s House of Ribs (known locally as Casa de las Costillas).

The pork ribs were some of the tenderest and tastiest I have had anywhere. I also tried the lomito plate (tenderloin) and it was good. They also serve beef ribs and chicken.

Tell the taxi driver to take you to the zoo (pronounced zoh). At night time getting a taxi after dinner can be a problem, so you may want to ask the driver to come back or to wait. During the day when the zoo is open, there are usually taxis near the zoo entrance.

Who else did you dine on DG?
I hope you had a tasty meal.

Your buddy,

Yes Ace, our old friend Anna did come to my room one morning. She said she still hangs at NYB, but business has been bad there lately. She said Iris has been working Sportmen's Lodge lately and she may join her there soon.

I gave her 8x10 blowups of the photos I took last trip. She was thrilled to have her own professional portfolio.

Yes, JR Ribs is a must do. It is a little tricky getting there. Walk north on Calle 7 to the end (right before the park). Turn right and walk 1 block then right 1/2 block. The ribs are great!!! Take a chica and you are the king.

Another good spot is Soda Delicious across the street and up the hill from ZB.

FYI on the cab thing... This place is just about 2.5 blocks from Hotel Amon Plaza... I walked there at night from the hotel...

Getting a cab is simple from the Amon, so head out of JR, make the immediate left turn and the street takes you straight to the Amon.

Took my wingman with me to JR's.

Great tasting ribs where the meat practically fell right off the bone. Just as good as it was last year.

This trip was about 8pm one night, where the first on was during the day.

They had a country-western singer and he did a real good job. His version of John Lennons "Imagine" was really pretty.

Great ribs, atmosphere, and prices. Will try to always make it one time on every trip.

About night time taxis, the desk will have to call for a cab, but that was a non item.
