Canada and the US exchange information on criminal offenses. That is not the case with CR.

BTW, the US will also not let Canadians in who have had DUI convictions (it falls under their criteria of a "Crime of Moral Turpitude"), so it's not a case of Canada doing something that the US won't. It's bullshit from both a Canadian and a US perspective really. I once got pulled off a cruise ship in Fort Lauderdale and "escorted" out of the country for a minor crime I did over 25 years ago. What really sucks is that as part of my job, I had been flying in and out of the states for years, with no problems, but because this was a cruise, the border cops in FL had the passenger list well in advance and they did a deep background check on everyone. And now, because they flagged me on that one check, I can no longer travel to the US without a waiver. Doesn't matter that I have received a pardon for that crime, nor that I never even had to do any time for it way back when. They seem to think that a citizen who has security clearances to work in aviation and who has not even gotten a parking ticket in the last 20+ years is a danger to their country because of some stupid mistake he made during a bachelor party 25 years ago. But they will let any asshole in as a refugee, who has a good sob story and no background history... as long as they are the right color

To add insult to injury, the waiver needed to travel thru the US takes up to a year to get and can cost as high as $5000 by the time you pay for the forms and the lawyer fees... and it only lasts for 3 years!

So, I have written the US off... they will never see my shadow again , nor a cent of my money. Their loss. They can keep building the walls higher and higher for all I care. I enjoy the world. The US can rot in isolation and paranoia... with their two-bit AA credit rating, lol.

Gee, can you tell you started a topic that hits a nerve with me? :D

It is a bullshit rule, but i'm glad it works both ways.
I have seen many loud obnoxious canadians in vegas who think the law does not apply to them. You would think that the countries that share such information would be able to refine it so misdemeaners would not count.

as a follow up
are the rules applied to everyone the same?
we have a lot of tourists from canada-doubt they all have squeaky clean records.
How does it apply to our govt. officials and atheletes who we know dont have clean records.
Like i said previously its a bullshit rule for both countries.

There is no such thing as "stopover" in the U.S. for a non citizen unless you are a citizen of a country that participates in the Visa Waiver Program.

Currently, 36 countries participate in the Visa Waiver Program

Andorra............Hungary......New Zealand
Australia...........Iceland.......Norway
Austria.............Ireland........Portugal
Belgium ...........Italy...........San Marino
Brunei .............Japan.........Singapore
Czech Republic..Latvia.........Slovakia
Denmark...........Liechtenstein..Slovenia
Estonia ...........Lithuania.......South Korea
Finland ...........Luxembourg....Spain
France............Malta.............Sweden
Germany......... Monaco .........Switzerland
Greece............Netherlands.....United Kingdom

.Do not know why the US does not have quaritined area for traveles just passing threw

That program was called TROV (transit without visa) and fell victim to the paranoia that was an aftermath of 911.

Me and my wingman Bill drove from new jersey to Canada in my BMW to participate in some legal canadian prostitution a few years ago . When we stopped at the entry point to montreal the agent made us park and go inside they pulled bill in the back and questioned him for 30 minutes about a marijuana charge he got 30 yrs ago ,they let him in but said next time he needs a letter from the police proving the charges were dropped like he said . Its so easy to walk across the border there anyway ..we should push the illegals up there like we did the french .
!

Just curious about the signifigance of being in a "BMW",...was that a factor in the story or did you just want everyone to know you "Were driving your BMW"?

Had you been driving a Dodge Stratus, would you have noted that?...

Googled and confirmed:
Quote:
Canada and a DUI Conviction

Canada regards DUI / DWI as an extremely serious offense. A conviction for Driving Under the Influence (DUI or DWI) will qualify you as a member of the Inadmissible Class. Those non-Canadian citizens with such convictions will not be allowed to cross the border into Canada freely.

The Inadmissible status can be removed, after a period of many years, by applying for a Minister's Approval of Rehabilitation. Although, you can visit Canada before the Inadmissible status is removed. This requires you apply for a Temporary Resident Permit. The Temporary Resident Permit allows you to visit Canada for a single purpose or for a limited period. This process requires completion of forms and paying fees.

The Ticos have yet to discover this income stream...

Buddy called me at 4pm sunday, Lets go to CA fishing and chasing ladies, I pay the full bill ( huge Insurance windfall) 45 minutes later I was at his place loaded, 45 minutes after that we were leaving for the boarder 250 miles away. We go to the crossing at 10 pm( cst) at 10:30 we got back to the USA boarder crossing.By 3:30 am I was home in bed..
He got kicked out for for refusing a breath analyzer test-- every time he blew the test he got 7.9% so they kept having him blow, after 8-9 time she told no more, so they busted him for that and OWI ( and it was local cop he knows well) OWI got booted out for no evidence, but the other stuck hard.

And for me, I got arrested year ago for a Class C misdemeanor, I was a week off having a bone replaced in my foot, on crutches, when I was attacked, The other guy got some heavy charges, I got embarrassed that I could not take a punch on one foot when on crutches and charged with " my Special Crime" Swearing In Public. and for that I now have to go sit on the group "W" bench for the rest of my life, at least in Canada. The lady told me in maybe 5 years I might be rehabilitated enough to be allowed in CA after doing my Special crime.. Yep me a swearer is not morel enough to go fishing in CA.

And just begin charged was what counted I was not convicted the charges, criminal charges were dropped, DA after seeing me was really happy ( for a couple reasons ) to drop to a $100 civil fine.

This is going to kill a lot of resorts up there, I know a lot of guys here who used to go two times a years but have some black mark, like OWI, or minor drug charge, fine stuff, Outdoors people are the ones who spend a lot of money in the middle of no where hunting, fishing are not the kind who have lived in monasteries the whole life. And the tree hungers do not spend the money to make up for it. So this may be causing some problems for the resorts up there.

But no worry for me I do not intend to stop swearing so not my problem, I am not going to rehabilitate my self. hell %^^*&^%$ fishing no fun with out a little #$$*&&^%) swearing

There was a mouse walking through the forest going about his way ,when he her a faint help ,help , he didnt think much of it but headed in that direction to see if someone was in need. Soon the mouse came to a deep hole in the ground and at the bottom was an elephant. The elephant pleaded with the mouse to help him get out of the hole , the mouse being a gentlemen said sure let me go home and get my 1959 corvette and ill help u out. Sure enough the mouse comes back throws a rope down and hauls the elephant out. The elephant says thanks dude i dont know how i would of got out of there if u ever need anything let me know. Well about a week later the the elephant is walking throught the woods and hears a faint help , help , so he heads in that direction and sure enough the mouse is at the bottom of the pit, he says hey do u remember me? I helped u about a week ago can u get me out of here? The elephant: no problem, straddles the hole lowers his dick and the mouse climbs out . Whats the moral of the story?

if you have a big dick you dont need a corvette
