I have been trying to find a shuttle between San Jose and the Liberia airport. Looks like interbus doesn't have anything going there. Am I going to have to rent a car for a day to get to Liberia? Trip starts flying into Liberia then off to Tamarindo for a few days then down to party central in San Jose. Interbus has a $40 per person pickup and direct drop off at San Jose Hotels from Tamarindo. American Airline is running such a deal into Liberia from Cleveland and punishing for different airport return couldn't pass it up but I need to figure a way back up to Liberia. Any info would be appreciated and beers will be available.

If you are looking for cheap, take Interbus SJ to Liberia. Then taxi from your drop off point to LIB airport.

Even cheaper is taking the public bus. Then taxi to the airport from the bus terminal.

You can always take the regular Tico bus from SJO to Liberia. It's only around 4000 colones (USD $8.) and it's not a bad ride. Just make sure you get a ticket (assigned seat) ahead of time or you might end up standing! It takes around 5 hours +/-.

Buena suerte,
MG

Thanks for all the input. Still scratching my head to figure out the best solution. Has anyone flown Nature Air? They have flights at 83.00 US. Flies out of San Jose Tobias Airport and claimes to gets you to the Liberia Airport in 40 minutes of flight time. Where is San Jose Tobias Airport?

Sansa Air has two a day to Liberia, one a day back, similar price as Nature Air, but at the main airport, same airport you will arrive at, has website. Just walkout of terminal and turn left and their little terminal is 2 blocks down. I think one leaves at 7 am and one at around 3 pm. Bring your camera, cool flight.

To put meat on DGDs bones: Sansa >> http://www.flysansa.com/eng/par/iti/itisansalow.asp
Nature Air >> http://www.natureair.com/domestic-flights-schedule.aspx << a generic listing--scroll down
Everything else being equal, I'd go with a plane ride over surface. Reason? Better scenery from above. Fun ride, no doubt. Float plane would be even spiffier.

I flew nature air from Liberia to San Jose.

Lots of ups and downs, but if you can handle that sort of thing its quite an enjoyable ride. Only takes about 40 minutes and would recommend if you don't mind paying the money.

One thing I will say is that the plane can be late and no one will tell you. I had an episode at the Liberia airport where the plane was no where to be seen 10 minutes after the scheduled departure time. Eventually the little thing came puttering down run way about the same time we were supposed to land in San Jose.

Alternatively, the drive is fairly nice. Paco Loco recommended Pure Vida transport which is the option I chose when I travelled from San Jose to Liberia. I can also recommend.

If taking the public bus do watch your stuff. I've heard numerous stories about stuff being stolen.

The Tobias bolanos airport is the smaller airport that is near downtown San Jose (pavas). I had friends pick me up so I can't say how it is gettings transportation to where ever it is your going, but I would guess not difficult...bound to be some taxis around.
