Often imitated never duplicated. Many have tried most went broke. The latest was the plan for The Dunn Inn . The person that talked it up and had the big idea hates the Del Rey and he was going to show them he could compete. Well you all know the result. NEXT !!!

If somebody would take over the Clarion Amon Plaza and run it right...then the HDR would have real competition. 'Til then, we deal with what we have.

I've always had the suspicion that there's more to that then what meets the eye, otherwise others, including Tico's if they aren't secretly in on it already, would be doing it, and/or they'd be closed down for whatever reason like the joint in PR.

Whatever one's views are on the place, love it, hate it, against their philosophy of not being friendly on discounts, it still has the most hot talent in one spot. I know their are more "performers" in guys eyes at other venues, there is almost always some good eye candy there.

The Dunn Inn owner had the opportunity with Boyd at the helm. The owner under estimated the power and loyalty of the CRT brotherhood. I am happy Boyd is doing well for himself at the HLH. Screw the Dunn Inn Owners. They had their chance and blew it. No the Del Rey can be overpowering with the hardcore chicas, but there are some sweethearts also to be found . I will always make my rounds to hopefully find one of them.

BTW, a good strategy at the DR is to sit around and show no attention to the chicas. Don't know why but it confuses and intrigues them..

The little bar back by the card room. You can quickly get a drink and your change, served with a smile then go sit at the Lobby Bar. I wonder if more people did that someone would figure out what the problem is at the Lobby Bar.

It would not take much effort at all to provide a better room at a better price with friendlier service. It would take a very patient investor to chip away at their reputation. It would take decades to change the way the girls think of the Delray. That's where they go to make $100 for a couple of hours work. And make it as an independent. That's what the place is really about. It draws the girls and the girls draw you. The service the hotel and bar provide a really not that important.

Throw in the fact that they have pursued some very good business practices. I didn't say anything about ethics. Example buying up all of the vacant buildings around their hotel to keep competition away from there traffic. Excellent strategy. Hiring the best looking girls that walk into the place to be bartenders. That way they are assured of having eye candy to attract you. Don't ever think these guys don't know what they're doing. I'm a loyal patron and an admirer of their operation.

Lee sums it up pretty well for a whole lot of folks. While I have never paid for a room there, it's the first place I want to go when I hit town. It is and will always be ground zero for some time to come. VIVA HOTEL DEL REY!!!

Agreed, Big John and his minor partners were the original geniniouses of the CR night life Gringo Gulch stile activity. Some may argue that Bill at the Park Hotel had something to do with it long ago . But not me, Big John was and still "IS the man!"
