There are many many good posts on this subject. I don't know what the best search term would be but seafood in this Restaurant section of the forum would probably ring up a bunch and you'd have a wealth of info at your disposal. I like the above poster's recommendation, the one in La Sabana is closest I think, but I know another one of their's got closed for a while for a health issue a year os so ago, I guess that could happen to anyplace on a given moment, who knows.

Try Balcon de Mariscos, its on the road to Curridabat, past Mall San Pedro - most cab drivers will know the place (obviously, ask 1st and use the meter!) - famous place; moderate prices, very good food.

Also, in the gulch, you cannot beat (IMO) Soda Peru - great place.

For the money it is hard to beat Soda Peru above the HLH. Great food, great price but only open for lunch.

There is a place around Plaza Visquez across the street from Pali. It's a small seafood place where you walk up and sit down on a bar stool. But it has some good seafood. Anyone know the name of it?

After having lived here for seven years finding a great place is indeed a find. This is a Peruvian restaurant not far from Multi Plaza in Escazu (across the street from the Volvo dealer... go in the direction of the HSBC high rise bank bldg for about 300 m from the circle at Multi Plaza. Name is "La Divina Comida". Open for lunch and dinner. Not cheap. Inside the tables and setting are fancy. Can sit outside. Casual but leave the tee shirts and shorts at home/hotel. Excellent fare. I'd put it one of the best places to eat in the whole country. Worth the trip if you're staying downtown.

Here's a generally useful blog on food and dining in Costa Rica--looks "bookmarkable" to me, and, yes, it mentions La Divina Comedia in one of the entries: http://zt.typepad.com/
BTW does anybody know the author, Lenny Karpman, a retired cardiologist?

Totally off topic but my cursory research shows Dante's masterpiece has been used all over the Spanish and Latin world as a restaurant name (Uruguay, Argentina, Peru, Spain, etc.)
