Here's a good satellite-based Website about the area: http://www.puertoviejosatellite.com/
Here's another of all of Limon Province (on this, put the cursor on any part and click til desired magnification--cool beans!):

Made that trip 10 years ago, beautiful but that road from Limon area on down was like the road to Dominical used to be, or worse, and longer, any improvements?

It's really not too bad a road from Limon to PV now. The normal potholes, washed out sections etc. but it's all paved and you can go 80Km/hr along most of it. They have also extended the paved section farther south past PV now.

It's been a few years... you're talking the stretch from Puerto Viejo to Mananillo... correct?

Yes, more pavement and less gravel on that road.

Neat links Jazzbo, thanks. Had used google maps to find Banana Azul the first time and glad I did the research as it's tucked into that neat stretch of beach away from everything else in PV.

That's good to hear... it was a killer especially if you were using a motorbike.

Just noticed this morning in A.M. Costa Rica that the Las Palmas hotel has been closed, everyone evicted (including the tourists) and the hotel is schedule for demolition. What happens when you build in a refugee and too close to the high-tide line. Gonna miss that place...

Didn't that same thing happen on the Pacific coast a few years ago? Not hotels(s) but people's houses being too close to the median high-tide line, being officially ignored for years then somebody gets a bug up their @ss and RIGHT NOW it (the law) gets enforced and relatively innocent lives and futures get trashed.

Channel 7 was showing some of the rooms being demolished last week. They said it was something about Las Palmas being built within the Manzanillo wildlife refuge.

Yes, a case of someone building where they should not have. Just goes to say you HAVE TO HAVE A GREAT LAWYER that will investigate these kinds of things. Mine kept me from buying a property build to close to a river, the one running behind the zoo. If he hadn't warned me, that property would have been a HUGE liability since if anything happened to the present construction (built before the law) then no possibility of rebuilding on that land because of the proximity to the river.
Gotta be careful and do the full research into any property/business you want to do here for damn sure...

I recall there being a story in the Tico Times about protests over the demolitions. I think it was two hotels, and the locals were pretty upset. Probably due to all the lost jobs.
